...and week after week publicly announced that he was failing and not doing a good job, would that alone not be merit enough to let him go?

That does not bother me...it is coaches speak. However, his team's lack of mental toughness and the ability to rise up in the big spot bothers me.

When he says "I failed" he's stepping in front of the press for his coaches and players who probably actually failed. I can tell you this. After the efforts the last 6 weeks I want his plan for improvement, changes to coaching staff proposals, player type requests, and what he views as strengths/weaknesses of this team a week from Monday. It's ok to fail. It's not ok to accept failure.

I would just cut his pay without telling him, put him in the basement, and take his stapler!

it's actually week after every other week. Miami didn't go 0-16 or 1-15. they went 8-8. Not defending him, just sayin.

Not only is it enough to let him go, I'd tell him during the firing that the 'I need to coach better' bull**** is the most annoying garbage I've ever heard. I mean if I have to hear this doof utter that stupid phrase or some variation of it one more time, I may spontaneously combust. YOU'RE NOT CAPABLE OF COACHING BETTER YOU GOOFY DIP****. YOU SUCK.

Philbin is the classic example of a highly performing specialist who gets promoted into a managerial role and fails miserably. Some people are just meant to be specialists, and Philbin is one of them. There is nothing wrong with that and going back to a role that is more suited to one's personal skills and abilities. I'm quite frankly surprised that a supposed top US business leader like Ross can't notice that while others with far less business acumen can...
