is it being driven by real confidence in Philbin and his staff or more from self preservation trying to avoid the significant roster churn that would occur with a coaching change?

Bingo

If the team really supported Philbin and company, they should of showed it with their play on the field, not with their mouths.

Hard to say what their motivation might be. Given the team's record about half of the players need to be replaced if there is going to be any serious improvement in the team.

I am actually really interested in how they play these last two games. Seriously. Are they crisp and playing hard or are they running for the bus?

They like Joe Philbin the person, thus they voice their support.
They don't particularly care for Joe Philbin the coach, thus they go out, do as much as they have to in order to not risk their contract being voided in the offseason, and they go home.

Some coaches are leaders as well as bosses. Joe Philbin is not among those.

I dont even consider the media a reliable source anymore nevermind players wives...

Thank you for bringing this up, OP. I believe you are on to something.

Here is why I believe that:

- In 2013, the Dolphins players essentially mutinied and threw Mike Sherman under the bus -- publicly and repeatedly -- before the Bullygate scandal caused the team to go into its 'us against the world' bunker.
- In 2014, Rishard Matthews asked to be traded before the season.
- In 2014, defensive players openly questioned Kevin Coyle's gameplan against the Chiefs.
- In 2014, offensive players complained that Bill Lazor has been 'mean' to them. He is 'too demanding.'
- In 2014, defensive players complained about the play-calling by Kevin Coyle in that last drive against the Packers.
- In 2014, Brian Hartline and Brandon Gibson have spent the season posting passive aggressive stuff on Twitter about their lack of targets and 'just keeping their heads down' and 'struggling' through it.

Conclusion: Cover Your Ass, Cover Your Job.

Sounds like we have a bunch of whiny babies for players.

I prefer fear of the HC. The players are obviously complacent. Philbin was touting praise on Mr. GoGo Sherman less than a calendar year ago. If Ross didn't force his hand he wouldn't have fired him. Here we are a year later with an improved O and a D that is consistently out schemed, out of position, poor technique, no heart. The D went into the toilet with Coyle at the helm.
Philbin never called plays anyway. Whether or not he keeps his notebook organized and the players like him doesn't matter. The record speaks or itself after 3 years with a new 1st round QB. Time to move on folks. A potential downside by adding a new coach would be the presence of gum wrappers on the practice field.

No, I'll tell you what it sounds like. It sounds like something that Chambers has been talking about for a while now, which is that we have a lot of cowards in that locker room. They spent TWO YEARS griping to reporters and taking pot shots at the coaching staff, and now that the coaching staff is going to be blown out, they realize that they need to find some new people to throw under the bus to try to deflect attention from their gutless play. Brace for it. Miko already got the ball rolling.

Well, the team sucks; therefore, I don't give a **** what they think.
