Ronnie had only 12 carries yesterday. I thought we were pass happy in all honesty. There were some 2nd downs and short yardage (4,5,6yds.) yesterday where we were passing from the shotgun when maybe we could have been running the 5 or so yards to get a first. It seemed to happen quite a bit. I think they need to stop with the pass happy stuff and stick to keeping the ball on the ground. I look forward to getting Morris back this week. He needs to be a really big contributer this week.

An effect or a cause?

This "30 carry" school is overdone. A lot of times 30 carries is a symptom of a won game, not the reason for it. When you get a team by the throat, you start running the ball, it wears them out, it chews up time and it preserves a victory. The idea that you just RUN it 30 times and you win is superficial. I'm sick of hearing it.

I'm a 20-25 carry guy myself. I wouldn't want a single back to shoulder 30 carries a game. I do think they should mix in more running plays though especially with our sack problems. It could help alleviate pressure on DC.

But the thing is, when we had a 6-3 lead....we didn't go to the running game. When we were down 10-6, we didn't run the ball. It was treated as if it was a 3 touchdown lead and all we could do is throw. Ronnie is a very good back, he needs to get more carries. Even after the 1st half...he had like 5 or 6 carries. Its so frustrating when you see the playcalling knowing that if they just did a couple things different, they could be 2-2 right now.

I agree, vs the bills they gave up on the run vs the steelers they gave up on the run( yeah they shut us down but still gotta keep them honest, right?) and yesterday they gave up too.

we won the titan game in that sense and we didn't have the game won and just pound it away...

but the gist of it is if you can run you can hold the ball and win time of possession and thats always a good thing... the titans did not go away from the run eventhough it was less effective than our running game and they ended up holding the ball for about 9 minutes more than us, and won...

not to mention the threat of a constant run can open up other things for your offense... its very important...

Normally I would agree. But watch the game and there was no reason to be passing the times we were passing. The fact remains, we almost run away from running the ball. If we ran the ball a little more, we are almost guaranteed 1 -2 more first downs. more TOP, defense off the field longer and will put less pressure on the oline and passing game should open up.

I agree, the running statistics can be a farce, but in our case we need to be running more.

Can we expect to win with only 12 carries? No...

In fact... we can expect to lose...

Yup, If we only run 12 times its not only a one demensional game, but its poor clock management.

Ronnie is a big back 6'1 233 pounds. He is a Back that would tear up and down a defense. Now if we had a smaller guy like Bush then yes 15 carreis would be perfect but Ronnie is a brusing back.

We can't run 20-30 carries because the OL is just not blocking well enough to warrant it.

So instead we leave Daunte to get killed by all the blitzers whom they would usually keep back to stop the run.

neither did houstons, but they still stuck with the run and ended up with over 25 carries, and won...

its not just about the yards, its about the wearing down in the running game, and the threat of the run that opens up other options...

Ronnie is big enough to know that he doesnt need a offensive line. He gets the tough yards and thats a fact!
