If Don Shula had not been forced to retire 8 plus years ago what would you project the Dolphins record would have been over that same time span compared to what it is now???

I agree. If Don had stayed we wouldn't be recovering from the Wanny years like we are now.

We wouldve gone undefeated every year since his retirement.

depends on whether or not he went senile like al davis.

a senile shula is still better than wanny/saban/cameron combined

i personaly think that we wouldve doin better than we haave been and almost evrybody can agree with me on that one

I think we would still be decent if he was doing our Drafts and all that stuff

i think we would still be competing for a playoff spot every year or so

Alot would depend on front office, his drafts were not that great down the stretch. He definately would not have gone 1-15

We'd probably be what we were when he left....a perennial wild card loser. In the early 70s, Shula was great. In the 80s, he was good. In the 90s, he needed to be fired...esp after the 95 fiasco, which he was.

The last ten years under Shula were nothing special. We hit rock bottom in 95 giving up 340+ yards rushing to Buffalo in the playoff game. That might be the worst playoff loss ever (besides the 62-7 JJ game).

I honestly think we would have had at least one more superbowl with Shula at the helm. And if not that, at least 3 more playoff seasons.

Shula at the end had two problems: 1. he was too loyal to assistant coaches who clearly wasn't getting the job done. 2. With FA he needed to hand off those personnel decisions to someone else....the answer to this blog...we'll never know. Still woulb be better IMO than the last 3 coaches without a doubt!

It's another "what if" thread, that i normally find useless to express, but Don Shula deserves some observation. If we hasn't changed our HC, there hasn't been any Jimmy Johnson rebuilding, which was more than needed on those days. Talented guys like Zack Thomas should never wore our jersey, but that also means another kind of players would do it. I'm figuring a horrible defense, but a nicer offense in 1997 to 1999, when both Marino and Shula would select the real replacement and they would be full in names to pick.
The Shula factor would put another ingredient in the mix: Mike Shula, given his abilities, was the young HC the team was waiting, and easier to accept than JJ's hiring.
