and win the SB, how would you compare it to what the Patsies have done the past few years? Perfect season or 3 of the last 4....what's more impressive?

I would say 3 out of the last 4. In this day and age it's harder to stay good with FA. Plus the league is watered down more now then in 1972. You had a lot of real good teams back then (Steelers, Raiders, Redskins just to name a few).

I agree, its harder to find success year in and year out with free agency.

that's tough. i say perfect season, and if they somehow do that then they are the best team in nfl history imo.

Both organizations have been very impressive but the Colts going undefeated would be unbelievable. The same exact reasons you guys have listed to support the Patriots make a perfect season all the more impressive in todays NFL. I hate to say it, but more impressive than our perfect season if they were to pull it off.

No question the Pats have accomplished more. Also, the 72 Phins backed up their undefeated season by winning the next Superbowl as well. The Colts not only have a ways to go to get the undefeated record but have an even longer way to go before they reach the "team" status that the modern day Pats enjoy and teams like the Steelers and Dolphins of the 70's. But with Peyton Manning and Dungy's defense I wouldn't rule them out of doing it all before their through. You have to be lucky as well as good...And they have been fortunate on the injury front...James has held up nicely considering he's had major knee surgery before. I would expect them to start looking for a promising young RB before long.

Well look at the very good clubs we beat in 1972

The Vikings 16-14
The Jets had a good team and we swept them 27-17 & 28-24
Cleveland was very good- 20-14
Pitt was very good- 21-17
Redskins 14-7

The colts are not playing teams as powerful as those teams where. I'm not trying to take anything away from the Colts, it would be something unreal to do it. But winning 3 out of 4 Superbowls is a better feat these days in my eyes.

I agree....

It is way more difficult now to go undefeated than it it was back in '72.

Man thats a tough call, I think I would go with the undeafeated season but its a toss up. I do have to say that if the colts do it there is no one I would rather see go undeafeated than Dungy and the Colts. I always thought he was a class guy, Peyton and Marvin too.

this question is easily answered by asking a dolphin fan what he would rather have for his team..

1. win 3 out of 4 superbowls
2. go undefeated

anyone who says they would rather go undefeated as opposed to winning 3 of 4 isn't a true fan.. ask the coaches/players which they would rather accomplish.

I couldn't disagree more. Today's NFL is far more watered down than in 1972. There were 6 less teams back then than there are now, that's over 300 players that are on teams now that wouldn't have been back then. That equates to the bottom 10 players on each of today's current teams being replaced by better players.

3 out of 4 Superbowls is more impressive than one great year. But personally I think colts has been the more solid team. They just couldn't win the playoff game whereas NE got a few breaks.

But that's not the question. What is the more impressive feat?
