they should do at least two of the next 3 things:

Draft:
-draft levi brown with the 1st pick. I don't care if they trade down to get more picks and still get him but they can't let this talent slide past them. He's huge (6'5, 327) and a great technician. a stud pass blocker and a very good run blocker. the total package.

-with the 2nd pick draft either rutgers brian leonard or usc center kalil. cameron needs a good/great fullback in his system (he had the best in business with san diego in lorenzo neal) and leonard is so much more than a fullback. he has great hands, is a great blocker, and an excellent power runner who can be used in short yrd situations and the goal line. plus he can also play TE if he adds a couple of pounds.
Cameron talked about building the offense starting with the center and he talked about hardwick refering to the center he had in san diego. Kalil is simply the best center in the draft by far and would be an upgrade over any player we have on the roster. he does everything good and was the leader of a very good USC team.

Free Agency:
-the first and most important thing: resign wes welker!

-get drew bennet. why? because he is a big, speedy, very consistent wide receiver and because he is coming from a not so good season he won't cost us that much. that way we can trade chambers or booker and get our hands off that bad contracts they have and add some picks( hopefully 2nd but probably 3rd rounders ala brandon lloyd last season)

-cut lj shelton and bennie anderson

Ricky Williams
-keep ricky williams. why? because he is still very good and if we decide to trade him, we won't receive what he is really worth just because he didn't play last season in the nfl and because of the concern of another suspension. ricky is a perfect complement to ronnie and they have shown they can make it work(look two seasons ago how good they ran sharing the load).

That's my plan. I hope cam and mueller actually follow at least 2/3 of it.

I was against drafting Levi Brown before the Senior Bowl week but all reports are he was outstanding. Although I would prefer an offense/defense rd 1/2 draft, I am now starting to like the idea of Levi Brown in the first with either Kalil or Sears in the 2nd. If we pass on Brown I want us to target Staley with our 2nd

Same here.

Kalil wont be there in the 2nd. he's made himself a first rounder.

I don't believe that Kali will fall to the second rd.

"Kalil is the best center in this draft, hands down, and has now possibly moved into the bottom of the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft. A strong performance during the actual Senior Bowl game and at the NFL Combine could elevate his lofty draft status even further."

I like Levi too, maybe not as much as you but I do like him. We'd have to trade down to get him though, he's not worth #9.

I like Kalil and would be happy to draft him in the 2nd. Leonard I'm not as sold on, he's a good runner and pass catcher, but his lead blocking doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies.

Agreed 1000% on Welker. I wouldn't trade Booker, but Chambers for a low 1st/high second I might think about. I'd try to keep Shelton at a reduced price but if he won't take a pay cut, cut him, cut Anderson too.

Ricky Williams

If we could get a package of future picks or something of that nature, I'd pull the trigger and wash my hands of the whole thing. Otherwise, I'd keep Ricky.

Seems like this whole post is designed and planned around us keeping Culpepper, which the Dolphins won't do. So while Brown is probable in the first round, a QB like Stanton will be a must in the second. Also in Free Agency I would look to Atlanta for their backup QB. I also think Cameron will look to San Diego for that free agent guard as well. Concerning Welker, he was the only bright spot to last years season. I think he's probably earned a roster spot, and I don't think due to his size anyone would give us a draft pick for him anyway.

P.S. no one is going to give us a package of future picks for Ricky Williams.

Let me guess... your source told you this? :rolleyes2

Great Post! :cooldude:
This plan sounds a whole lot better than the typical "draft Hall or a DE with the first pick" crap I've been reading! With a aged BUT top 10 defense and a pi$$-poor offense...I'm amazed at the people who want to draft defense with the 1st pick. :goof: If we did improve the defense with a 1st pick, what good would it do with a consistant 3-downs-and-out offense? Makes NO SENSE! :shakeno:

I was against drafting Levi Brown before the Senior Bowl week but all reports are he was outstanding.

I was watching espn, and they said he looked horrible. I give up, one report says one thing while another says the complete opposite. It gets annoying sometimes. Blah. To be honest though, I feel he'll end up as a RT in the NFL, just my opinion of course.

Wow they said that!? Now I am confused. Man I hate the NFL Network or rather Time Warner for not carrying them:fire:

If you get Levi Brown at #9, and he is a solid LT for the next 10 years? Then he is a pretty good pick, even at the #9 spot, right? Yeah, if Miami could drop down to the #15/16 spot and get another 3rd rounder, that would be nice. Otherwise, you take the guy you need at #9 and be happy.

I'm all for keeping Ricky Williams around, as part of a RB rotation. You could even split Brown out and have Ricky in a one-back set. No doubt Cam will have some nice schemes for these two. :D

I disagree about trading Chambers though. I want to see what he can do under Cam, and with a healthy Culpepper throwing to him. A now-or-never year for Chambers. I do want Welker back, at a reasonable price.

The defense needs a pass-rushing OLB, that is the only HUGE need on defense, assuming they can get Traylor and/or Wilkinson back at DT for one more year. Who might be there in the second round?

My general thought about this team going into 2007 is that you can keep the defense about the same, and have PLENTY of room to really improve the offense. Imagine how many games are wins last year if they team was averaging 27 points a game instead of just under 17? The defense gets better just by having more points to defend, or putting teams in a having to pass situation.

So, give the offense most of the CAP money, and most of the draft picks. That is the best and fastest way to improve this team for 2007.

Shouldn't we look at rebuilding our defensive front through this year's draft? Vonnie might not be back, JT and Carter are up there in age and Taylor is complaining about his back and almost retired on us. Who knows if Keith Traylor will be back and Dan Wilkinson might be a cap casualty. Why add another young O-lineman when we have so many? Is there a stud D-lineman worth taking with our 1st? Like a huge NT?

You were doing so well, and then you crashed and burned right here.

Keeping Welker around is pointless if we intend to keep Chambers around as well. Chambers plays best from the slot, and guess what position Welker plays? Welker plays damn hard, but he's just not as good a WR as Chambers is when Chambers is utilized properly.

If we truly need a WR, I'd prefer to draft one in the third round. This draft is incredibly deep at the WR position. We can get a 3rd rounder who'll play nearly as well as a 1st rounder.

Cutting LJ Shelton isn't an option. The guy performed pretty well at RG. Shelton's problem is that he's got a Left Tackle-sized contract for a position that shouldn't earn that kind of money. If he can be convinced to restructure or renegotiate an entirely new contract, he should be kept.

My current thinking is that, unfortunately, we will indeed go WR in the first round, passing over Levi Brown due to the presence of Anthony Alabi on the team. He hasn't gotten much playing time thanks to Saban, but is supposedly just what we need at LT. I have a sinking feeling we'll slot Alabi at LT, pass over Brown, add to the WR corps, and draft a QB much higher than we should, possibly Drew Stanton.

you do realize that leonard has dropped his weight down to about 220-225 area to become a running back. personally i would like to get leron mclain from alabama. great blocker with pretty good hands. i would of liked to have gotten him in the 5th but since we dont have one hopefully he falls to the sixth.
