..I'll admidt I was very leary about drafting a RB with the #2 pick in the draft..Imean we have pro bowl RB's available for a 2nd rounder every year!! A running back's life is short in the NFL..and they are for the most part easy to come by..To me It just didnt make a whole lotta sense to give an unproven back MORE $$$ than perrenial pro bowlers (Alexander,James) and use the #2 pick in the draft for him......I beleive in Saban and trust his judgment but I wouldve traded for one of the proven guy's and went a different direction....

..That being my opinion....If you could go back knowing about RW and this idiotic holdout.....would it make more sense to use our 2nd rounder on a proven back and trade down for lesser value or selected someone else like Mike Williams??? I think Ronnie will be great but man if he's not whatta freakin waste!!

In hindsight, maybe we would have been better off trading down for a couple of first rounders. Pick up Mike Williams and maybe a corner. That way we don't have to fork over so much $$$ and we pick up more talent.

That said, I'm not too upset to have Ronnie Brown. Although I think Ricky looks good thus far, after what he did to us I really don't want to depend on him any more. If Ronnie becomes the back we think he will, then it was probably the right pick.

I would still draft Brown at #2.

This isn't about Ronnie wanting to hold out. The #2 overall pick --regardless who it is-- will want a lot of guaranteed money, based on what the #1 guy got. If we had Mike Williams or Maurice Clarett, no matter who it is they would be asking for about the same as Ronnie is.

Idk...I just errased everything that I had stateing how I would trade down..etc...but the more I think about it, this was a good move. I prefered Benson, but Im not complaining about Brown. We didnt know is Ricky was coming back, the Qb that we wanted was gone, and if you cant get the passing game through the draft, attack the running game. Well done.

..I agree he looks exciting and was praised at the combines...but man I personally wouldve rather traded for Alexander for our 2nd rounder and then traded down in the 1st.....picked up some talent on Defense and maybe a WR..... this would look good!!

...QB-feeley/ferrote
...RB-Alexander/Willaims
...WR-Chambers/Williams/Boston/Booker

Didn't we try to trade down but there were no takers?

We had takers but nothing so great that it would be worth the trade down.

How much longer do you think Alexander will be in the league? How about Ricky?

We tried trading, no one offered a good enough deal.

Not to mention Edge could of been had for a 2nd. No doubt you could of went either way. I think Saban wanted "his boy" and a new boy if that.

Who would you have traded with? You cant just say "I would have traded down". It requires someone willing to trade with you to complete the trade and all reports say that nobody was willing.

Alexander was franchised so we would've gotten him for 1 year and a cap hit of over 6 million.

..He wasnt Franchised pre-draft and we could use the Brown money to sign him for another 4 years.....he's a sure thing.
