This is not one of those oh Crap we should have drafted the guy posts. But do you think all things being equal: Coaches, teams, talent, would the dolphins be as good as the falcons were simply on the arm or matt ryan or is there so much more that goes into the equation including Luck! Your Thoughts.

Yeah MIA's O-line would be crap and Matt Ryan would be considered a bust right now.

Hard to say because we have yet to see what Chad Henne can do. Without that no one really has a valid argument.

Our offense would be better. Great quarterbacks make o-lines better just like great o-lines make QB's better.

There's so much voodoo that goes into the success of a young QB that it's impossible to predict how he would've done on a different team.

The Ryan-Long debate will never go away, just like Brees name often comes up because we passed on him not once but twice.

Ryan is the real deal... good thing we keep wasting 2nd round picks on QB's instead of biting the bullet and drafting one in the first round.

I'm a huge J.Long fan but if Ryan was the selection our FO would have made some moves to make sure that LT position was taken care of. I never saw Ryan being as good as he is right now but I do believe you never pass up a franchise QB. I think last year we would have been 8-8 maybe 9-7 with Ryan in there but the outlook for this year would have been greater.

I'm also willing to give Henne the chance to prove himself if that ever happened.

If we had taken Ryan: "Damn it we should have taken Jake Long"

we took Long: "Damn it we should have taken Matt Ryan"

I personally liked the Long pick. If Matt Ryan had busted for us, we would've ruined our franchise for another couple of years. Long was the safe pick, and I'm still glad we made that choice.

Our offense would be better. He's a great QB. But hindsight is 20/20, some people thought he was going to take a while to develop, while Jake Long was/is ready to go on Game 1 (pro bowl on first season proves he was a nice pick too). Same with Mark Sanchez though I really did like Sanchez as a prospect and I always felt he's better than Stafford; but I didn't think either were ready.

At best what would be different is we'd be 1-0 this season. Mainly because the Falcons wouldn't have Ryan and we would. Both teams were 11-5 last year and both teams lost in the first round.

Would anything be different? Yes, we would be set for the next 12 years at the most critical position by far in the NFL - quarterback. Matt Ryan was the pick, but the Trifecta went safe with Long. Safe gets you as far as, well, as far as the Fins are at solving QB.

Atlanta went Ryan at #3 and Baker at LT from USC at #21. This has solidified them at those positions.

Certainly, in hindsight, the Fins picked next at #32 (Merling) and no true franchise LT's were remaining. Miami would likely still have Carey locked in at LT unless they signed a free agent.

While I am happy with Long, I am growing increasingly frustrated at the lack of identifying and playing our future at QB. Until Miami gets the answer at QB, they will continue to plod in this offensive quicksand.

At best what would be different is we'd be 1-0 this season. Mainly because the Falcons wouldn't have Ryan and we would. Both teams were 11-5 last year and both teams lost in the first round.

And if you think this fact makes both teams equal, you are sorely mistaken.
