If we pick up Cutler, could/should we start him? Do we take the Eli path and feed him to the wolves, or the Palmer approach and groom him for a year? I don't think that starting him could be worse than the abuse he's taken the last 4 years at Vandy. I can't say I'd be against starting him either, giving him a full year to learn our system couldn't hurt. ??????

Groom him for a year.

I would start him in preseason and see what happens, then make a decision before the first game.

Every QB is different, but I thinking most of the time you're best off sitting a rookie QB for the year. Their confidence can really take a beating early on and that isn't a good thing.

I'd groom him out... With Gus' practice through this year (maybe even Sage), We can have a playoff season without a new QB in the mix. With a new QB in the mix, we're playing with, what I think is a, working equation.

I have been saying this all year. There is no way saban will stick in a rookie at QB. The starting QB for 2006 is already on the roster.... I 100% believe we will pick up at least 1 QB this offseason, and they will not start. Saban wants to win now, and a rookie will just delay that another year. I really do see him going the carson palmer route, sit a full year, then give him the reigns. Especially when our current cast is comfortable and getting better in the system every week. A rookie QB stifles the growth of the entire offense...

They would most likely put him in as a backup under Gus. He will get his oppurtunity somewhere in the season to take over, either because Gus get injured or starts playing bad- which is likely.

That and not let him in til at least the second half of the season barring injury to the starter. Let him get the playbook down then bring him in slowly.

I think possibly he could handle it for a year beings as he had such a bad team but he did quite well despite that. But the safest bet I think is to just groom him a year.

I like what Cleveland was doing with Frye and GB with Rogers. Lets him play a drive or two now and then when it doesnt matter.

Let him sit most of the first year, unless injuries make that impossible. Maybe play him down the stretch (4 games) if the team is out of contention.

Wow, I like your guy's optimism that we're going to get this guy, but then again, we can say the same thing about any new QB we're going to get.

If the QB is a first rounder (which would surprise me), you groom him one year. The same may go for a second rounder. If the heir apparent comes later than that, you groom him two years.

I think it's likely that Miami will pick a QB in the 3rd this year. They'll count on him to be a backup for this team for a long while and will count him as a pleasant surprise if he's good enough to start. In the 2007 draft, Miami picks up its starter for the future. He takes over in 2008. This is why I'd like to bring in Kitna to start in 2006-2007.

So your saying that if we have a chance at a playoff run we insert our rookie QB?

Just let him sit the whole year maybe get some mop up duty, maybe start week 17 if we have our playoff spot clinched or are totally out of it
