Why not swap the contracts of Jackson and Wallace? Wallace makes more, but we can also get Matheis to ease the salary burden of the $15 million guaranteed dollars on Wallaces deal this season. If return for Matheis, we can send a 5th rounder to the eagles. We probably would have used a pick in that range for a OL anyway - might as well use it for one that is coming off a good season.

Summary:

Dolphins sends Mike Wallace, 5th rounder to the Eagles

Philadelphia sends Desean Jackson and Evan Matheis.

How about Wallace, Wake for Jackson, Mathis and a second?

Wallace has a bigger contract but they get no hit for trading Jackson while we would eat up like $15M dead money so that evens it out and they get Wallace with no bonuses attached anymore either while we would have to work a contract out with both Jackson (he's on a 1 year tender) and Mathis, while Wake is also on a very friendly contract.

That's a good idea as well. But I don't think trading Wake right now would be a good choice. He's a leader, and one of the best PR's in the game. Plus we still don't know how Jordan will pan out.

I believe this has entered the "Madden" zone.

Contract figures this high don't get traded; they get cut.

Philbin has said Wallace and Tannehill need to work on their chemistry this offseason. And if Philbin sends Mike Wallace packing, I can't believe this will look good on him. Not too mention it will signify failure on so many levels that the system is questioned. Philbin wanted Wallace... now can't coach him after one year at premium money? Doesn't speak well for Philbin.

And with all the crazy trade scenarios that will come of this... what do we "net" out of it?

Desean Jackson and Mike Wallace are a wash. Nick Foles was lights out last year. We will see if it was the system or the QB this year with Lazor. Not too mention trading Wallace means yet another setback for RT. Another new WR and another learning curve.

Trades and FA acquisitions are fun to talk about, but the actual impact on the development of a team is incredibly dangerous. Giving up so easily is not the way to build a team. You'd think a fan base that loves to fire it's HC EVERY YEAR would learn that at some point.

Like it or not, Lazor, OL, RT and Wallace decide how good Mike Wallace can be. Every part of the equation must improve in order for an elite speed receiver who specializes in the deep ball can truly show his talent. Big Ben thrived in chaos and loves to throw deep jump balls. It was a style that Wallace also thrived. Now he is in a timing based offense predicated on process, discipline, route precision and ball placement. None of those elements were in Pittsburgh. This will take time and patience.

Well said.

I think trading Wallace does more harm for RT development. That chemistry is finally starting to develop and will only get better. Why risk that right now? The trade that was proposed isn't terrible, but Mathis is aging and at 33, paying him 6 million a year just doesn't sit too right with me.
I'm not saying I wouldn't want him, maybe on a 1 or 2 yr deal but is he willing to take that if he wasn't willing to take that from Philly? IDK. I think we let Wallace play this season and then re-access after this year

I would do that trade in a heart beat.

Lazor will know what Desean is like and what he can and can't do.

Trading Wallace is a good move if they can get the right value for him. He is too expensive & can be a distraction

Stop this trade nonsense. Wallace, while really didnt agressively fight for a ball never had a real chance this year. He got open deep several times only for Tanny to underthrow it and allow the DB to recover. Either that or threw it out of bounds. There were at least 7-8more TDs for Wallace (which probably equals another 2 wins last year) if Tanny was close to target.

The discussion on this topic is dumb and so appropriate for LaCanfora to talk about.

It does need to be said that Wallace is a rare and unique asset for any QB. But when you throw in all of the facts about RT, his general inexperience as a QB, lack of playing with elite talent, running for his life, trying to progress through reads while bodies are falling all around him, getting sacked 58 times and looking ahead to a COMPLETELY overhauled OLine.... as if all of this is not enough for any QB to overcome, he also has to learn how to play with one of the fastest WRs in the game.

Guys, Wallace is special fast. How many guys in the NFL play like him and are on the field for every play? 3? 4? 5?

I know we, as fans, have witnessed Wallace being WIDE OPEN on many plays but RT either looked away too early, didn't have time to progress back to him or simply didn't realize Wallace's speed is so quick that he could break his progression and come back to find him blowing by the defender.

I've given Wallace a lot of hatred, especially early on. But I will say this... there's not many QBs in the game that understand what it is like to have a guy like Wallace on the field. In a play that make take 3 reads before coming back to the first option getting open, Wallace may get open seconds earlier and could have 2 windows to pass into before the 3rd read is made. He's one of those guys that breaks molds. And if he's not utilized correctly, he can look aweful. But the truth is.... it's everyone else who can keep up with his game.

I'm just saying... Wallace gets open a lot and many times RT hasn't even seen it.

Uhhhhh, hello.....trading the contract takes the physical payout of money away from a team, but it doesn't take the cap hit away on the bonus money. So, you're going to take on Desean's huge cap number PLUS the immediate escalation of the remaining years pro-rated signing bonus money from Wallace.

If you factor in the number of times that Wallace could have made a catch if he had only put in the slightest bit of effort, or maybe extended his T-Rex arms just a little, he'd have had 14-16 more TD's which probably equal another 4 wins last year.

We aren't trading Wallace. Do people even pay attention to who reported that?

I do not want to trade Wallace due to A.Talent. and B.Cap hit. Let the next season or two play out and then if we cut him there is little cap hit and can use the money to sign a player or three. Simple fact is unless you use a 1st round pick and let a guy develop for the next two years and accept not having a #1 receiver for yet another two years, cutting Wallace is just downright stupid.

No this is dumb. Jackson isn't even better then wallace. Jackson was in a better season and if tannehill an Wallace connected deep wallace would have the same numbers. Wallace has more tds despite playing one less year and desean really isn't cheaper. Wallace makes 17 mill this year to deseans 12 but after that their numbers are about te same for the next 2 seasons. Plus add in dead money from Wallace and we end up paying more and not upgrading. Jackson's also had injury concerns and this was his first year playing 16 games since his rookie year, Wallace has missed one career game. So let me get this straight? You want to trade for a receiver that is pretty much already what we have and has injury concerns? What's the logic in that at all?

We can 100% rule out any scenario where Jackson comes to Miami.

Quite the story.... RT @Al3xCole: Breaking: DeSean Jackson's gang connections troubling to Eagles http://nj-ne.ws/v7L8q

NFL ‏@nfl 1m

--> RT @Eagles: After careful consideration, Eagles decide to part ways with DeSean Jackson. The team informed him of his release today.

Now the Eagles have even more serious concerns -- Jackson's continued association with reputed Los Angeles street gang members who have been connected to two homicides since 2010.

Ever since New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was arrested and charged with first-degree murder last summer, NFL franchises have been reevaluating how closely they needed to watch their players away from the field. And what Eagles executives see in Jackson, a six-year veteran, is apparently a potential blight on the brand and a bad influence in the locker room.

As a source within the Eagles organization, who requested anonymity, put it: "They are concerned about having him around the younger players."

Lol Giving up on Wallace already.. for a guy that has already similar skills sets like Wallace. Stop with the bs talk and forget about Jackson
