If we draft Ryan Tannehill should he start or sit?

Personally I think Tannehill at 8 would be a huge reach but one we may be forced to make. I am confident though in Sherman and Philbin being able to coach up a QB (something we haven't had here in a long time) so the question is....If we were to draft Tannehill would you guys prefer him to start day 1 (I don't think he's ready)? or Would you like to see him sit for a while and learn before throwing him in the fire?

If we take him, he definitely needs to sit on the bench and learn for a while. I would prefer that he sit for a couple of seasons, as that likely means our starting QB is playing well and we are winning games. However, if Moore / Garrard play crappy and we are not winning, I can see him getting thrown into the fire before he is really ready.

not you also with the polls truth...anyways sit for half to the entire season

He needs to sit. I'm sure Sherman is confident in his abilities, but he just doesn't have enough experience at this point. We're still not sure how well the team surrounding our QB will be, and I'd rather have a veteran under center for us as opposed to throwing a rookie in the lion's den.

Sit him and make damn sure the right side of that line is fixed. Matt Moore is used to running for his life after a season of Colombo.

Yeah I hate doing polls but I needed to see what everyone thought. Seeing as how we're all impatient at this point for a winner and want to see the QB situation resolved so other areas of the team can be addressed and taken care of I was wondering if people here would have the patience to wait on Tannehill to develop.

He has 19 starts and only 1 year as a starter....This guy is not ready to step in. He needs work. I voted 2 years.

As much as we need a stud at the position. I am very much in favor of a grooming process with QBs like this. Guys like Dalton can be thrown into the mix early. But you are only stacking the odds with a QB that needs time to grow and learn the NFL way.

the college experience of andy dalton and ryan tannehill are not close to the same things...dalton had a ton more experience making him more ready to contribute from day 1...

even though he's nothing but an average nfl qb...people will figure that out in time

Well I feel a little better although I would prefer he sit for 2 years. Aaron Rodgers the starter was not the same QB as Rodgers the draft pick...4 years of learning can do that but he clearly he had the skill sets.

At least it looks like no one is going to be anxious for him to start day 1.

I'd sit him for two years. I think he will be a good player, eventually.

Yesterday, Charlie Casserley said that he liked Tannehill better than Josh Freeman, Joe Flacco, Christian Ponder, and Jake Locker coming out. Of course, I think Casserley didn't like Cam Newton IIRC, so that hurts his credibility.

i believe he should be the back up but should get 40 or 50 reps spread out thru the season. 2 or 3 reps a game a 3rd down conversion here a 1st down series there. so he can see the speed of the game while he learns, but not turn onto footsteps falco because he has to carry the team

He would sit for the entire season provided no injury.

Garrard will get PT one way or another. He wont get the reps like Moore will.

I dunno, from everything I'm hearing he's a big reach at #8. Maybe not in the market right now for QB's, but I don't think anyone thinks he can be ready before 2013.

I'd just hate to have a pick that we reached on, because it was a BIG need for the team. He seems like a pick that would require a franchise and fan base that are willing to be patient. I don't think the franchise and I know the fan base sure isn't willing to be patient with anything Ireland may or may not do.
