Casell tag has a great benefit for the GM who are looking for a QB.

Will you trade a 2nd pick this year and conditional 2nd next for casell .Then do not sign him immediately and pull a tony romo kind of deal and make him play 6-8 games to prove that he is a starter before signing him.

If is not as good you loose a 2nd and some cat money or if he is good you get to sign him long term or ofcourse the other course
sign 39 yrd old garcia or any of the 37/38 yr old qb in the market for 6-8 million to play and hope he plays 10-11 games without injures?

what system you mean read defences and throw it to the open guy ?.

What kind of offense is being run? In any case I also think he is a product of the system. Its a little bit more than "throw to the open guy".

could you explain.

When he started he had a tough time and offence was base 2 TE set with alot FB option . Moss and wes were their running round and moss hardly caught a pass.

My mid season the FB/TE was replaced by 3rd WR and moss starting getting some balls and so did gaffney.

December 4-0 He was running the spread offence with 3WR or 4WR[which was never used in the first 2 months of the season ] and he won all the games convincingly.

So yes it was not the same system as when he started out it was heavly dailed down to running and power football and he was not forced to read more than 2 but once you go 4 wide and all your receivers are getting ball how can you say he its the same offence. You make it sound like running the spread offence is the easiest thing when you see only a few qb`s do it in nfl.

The biggest point is made about the steelers game which we gladly ignore is moss dropped a TD in the end zone and another 1 with in the 10 yd line with no coverage before the half. Wes dropped passes and gaffney was horrible too. Any one had held on to the ball the game with the pats leading might have gone differently. Matt also has never played in the rain even in high school .He did say after arizona game that snow was easier but the rain was tough as he has never played in rain.I am not saying he brady but i can give a young Qb who has never played in a rain even in high school or college a break on his rain game against the no1 defence in NFL.

Sure wouldn't. Can you say product of a system?

His rookie year he had 101 catches for 1,377 yds and 8 TDs. Warner wasn't there at that point so how could it have been a fluke b/c of the system?

Hell his worst year is 56 catches for 623 yds and 1 TD in 10 games.

I dont really have the time to go into the Pats Offense. Let me just say how he was more successful with the dink and dunk passes underneath, that led to more yards after catch. When he was asked to throw the deep ball....even when Moss had a step or 2, he missed horribly. This caused the prima donna Moss to lose faith with him very early.

Wes didn't drop many from what I remember, maybe Im off. I do agree that gaffney was horrible with drops last season.

Going to another team, say Detroit, he may be asked to throw more of the longball, with calvin. Not as many options for the short pass as NE. Probably won't be as successful.

Dude, we're talking about Matt Cassell here...

Anywho, i agree that he is a product of the system. Same thing with EVERY Patriot. Look at any player who left the Pats... they struggle elsewhere.

I don't think Cassel is worth a 3rd. And certainly not worth 15 mil

If pats cut him and say he signs with any team even with an avg contract he will fetch a 3rd rounder in 2010 like asante did .Also , holding 5 pick on day 1 BB will like this better when he can move this pick to the next draft. so i think 3rd is not even a minimum.

again, if you are a gm then you would sign an injured garcia or culpepper or bolger then a 26 yr old qb?.also, who every you sign you pay 6 million/yr for a multi year contract then a player for 1 yr with an option to extend for 14 million.?

"If I were Detroit or Kansas City, I would make that move in a heartbeat. If you’re asking me if I would rather have Matt Cassel or Matthew Stafford or Mark Sanchez, I’d rather have Matt Cassel," Kiper answered.

from todays interview.

Not sure who you're referring to. I'm talking about Matt Cassel though

No, it's called a "Spread" offense. We don't run a "Spread" offense. He's not worth all the money he will be getting, and in no way worth the draft picks it will take to get him. He's a spread QB, not what we need.

are you saying running the spread offence is very easy ? again , sanchez has 15 games in college compared to 16 games in NFL by casell so according to your logic a gm should move up and get sanchez in the first round and offer him a huge contract as its easy to play in nfl then college.

my point is casell ran the spread offence only in decemeber , he ran a 2 TE offence for the first 2 months and then moved to 3 WR package and atlast 4 WR package .so he did run all .

so it was theoritical question of if you would trade for him or pick one of the below....
1)Get the top qb and pay him a monster contract and hope he pans out
2)Get sanchez who has played 15 games in college and pay him a big contract and hope he develop in 2 yrs and look for another stop gap qb
3)Get gracia who has been injured and is 39 and move this issue to next year or if he goes down look for culpepper, grossman or vinny to save the season
4)Your first pick so low you cannot get hold of any qb so you draft one is 3rd round or below and sign some washed up guy to play for 2 yrs and hope he develops.
