Okay, so our drafts the past 2 seasons have produced some good players for us. But, surprisingly, the players picked later in the draft have done more already than their counterparts picked ahead of them. So, if you had to pick a group of players to keep on the team for both now AND the future, which group would you keep?

Group 1:

Phillip Merling
Shawn Murphy
Vontae Davis
Patrick Turner

Group 2:

Kendall Langford
Donald Thomas
Sean Smith
Brian Hartline

For some, this may be an easy question now, but I think a few years down the line this will be much tougher. That is why I added "for now AND the future."

That was easy...group 2 by a long shot...you basically have a pole of firsts vs. seconds...

I don't think anyone could seriously answer group 1 knowing what we know right now - group 2 is heads and tails beyond group 1 and even in the future, I don't see group 1 as having THAT much of a higher ceiling than group 2.

You make a good point and could have included many other pairings in my opinion....I see tons of potential in our second string players as well. Henne, Wake, Clemons, McDaniels and all those named in Group 1 will most likely push our starters to prove themselves constantly. Being able to sub in our 2nd teamers builds confidence and inspires competitive spirit while keeping the starters fresh. Injuries and poor play need not be tolerated under these conditions and should result in immediate change.....and change can be a very good thing. I think the key here is to find these guys playing time to keep them motivated and focused (stick to play counts Tony) as every member of this Team matters, and they know it.

obviously the 2nd group... but it just goes to show you how brilliant the pick 2 draft philosophy has been, very funny that each time the 2nd one has been the superior... you would imagine that its not going to be the first guy picked every time, but youd think at least one of those times, though the jury is out on Jalen Parmalee and Lex Hilliard still... but those guys were picked much later

LOL....Was that a trick question? I will go with the starters.

The reason I ask is because the ceiling of Group 1 is much higher. Turner, IMO, has more star potential than Hartline, Merling more than Langford, and I think Vontae has a higher chance of becoming more well-rounded than Smith. And like I said before, 2-3 years down the road, I think this will be a much tougher question.

Group 1 IMO also has the greater BUST POTENTIAL. Merling already has a "B" starting to show on his chest...Turner is fading and looks to be a project...Vontae out of Group 1 has the most potential, but saying his potential is higher than Smith at this point...not sure about that...Murphy...jury is still out on whether he will even be a starter...

Sometimes it's not so much an issue of talent as it is desire. Sometimes the lower drafted guy wants it more, works harder.

i thought about that the other day, and never posted it.
Defiantly groups 2 though
