Maybe this could be a good pickup at a need position for us:

Frustrated Larry Foote will test free-agent market

John Niyo / The Detroit News

Frustrated by what he perceives to be a lack of interest from the Lions, veteran linebacker Larry Foote said he's planning to test the free-agent market beginning March 5.
"We're just going to free agency and see from there," said Foote, citing unproductive talks between his agent, Brian Levy, and Lions general manager Martin Mayhew. "I mean, obviously, I'm not a big priority for them. So that's just how I'm taking it."
Foote, 29, returned to his hometown on a one-year contract last May after spending his first seven NFL seasons in Pittsburgh. He started 14 games in 2009, leading the Lions with 99 tackles, including nine for loss and two sacks.

Sounds like an upgrade over all of our Linebackers and only 29.

I wasn't aware he didnt play for the steelers anymore. I would be frustrated playing for the Lions to. He would definitely be an upgrade.

Love Foote. Certainly an upgrade and has played in the 3-4 before so that's a bonus. If we can't get Dansby, I would love Foote.

I'm trying to figure out why the hell he signed with the Lions in the first place..

But yeah, he would be a nice upgrade for us.

He played for the Lions because he wanted to play for his hometown team. I don't think he could be considered, the Trifecta would prefer to go younger at the position through the draft.

wouldnt be a horrible pick up obviously he isnt a long term LB for us but i wouldnt mind getting him and having a rookie LB play behind him untill his contract is up maybe put a guy like Micah Johnson behind him for a year or 2 tell he can take over

Foote was really doing a good job in Detroit before the injury, I had him on my fantasy team (IDP). He also has experience playing in the 3-4 in Pittsburgh.

yet we want ANOTHER LB that the steelers let go of...

isn't it quite obvious by now that the steelers let go of LBs and players that are not doing good anymore or aren't that good and worth teh $?

I rem last year I wanted McFadden really bad...well this year ARZ fans want him out and call him the WORST CB they have seen...we got JP and he was good only 1 year and the other 2 he was horrible and even his 1 good year he was horrible against hte RUN and just HORRID this year against the run.

Foote leaves...their starting ILB and gets replaced by a guy thats 234 lbs timmons that is good but "doesn't fit the mold" of a 3-4 ilb and yet we want that guy they let go of? are we that pathetic when it comes to evaluating LB talent that we have to go after has beens?

If you sign anyone its a guy like Dansby or Ryans. I prefer to go ILB and OLB in round 1-3 range. I think we send our 2nd for a WR like Marshall. I konw we tried really hard last year for Boldin but htey wnated a 1st and obviously his value has dropped and so shuld Marshalls so I can see a 2nd for Marshall happening and 6th or a 4th for boldin nothing more. S will be addressed via FA with a vet not a rookie.

Your right SR, Foote was a discarded Steeler, and he is undersized (6-1 about 135) for our 3-4. However, because I had him on my fantasy team last year I did keep a good eye on him and I was fairly impressed with his play. Was it great? No. Was it better than Ayodele or Crowder? You betcha. He'll be 30 this coming season and most likely will only regress as a player, but as of right now, based on his play before his injury, he's better than what we got.
