Philbin knew this **** was going down and he told Incognito to toughen up Martin then he will be gone, as should Ireland since he hired him. I can't take much more

of this bull****. Being a sports fan is not easy..LoL... and i'm not comparing the PSU story to the Dolphins one!!

Yea you've had some tough years in recent memory.

The story of Philbin telling Richie to "toughen up Martin" makes a lot of sense and its something I could imagine a lot of coaches would tell a guy on their team like Incognito to do with a player like Maritn. Richie just took it too far and underestimated just how mentally weak Maritn is. It's starting to look like there wasn't really "ill intent" by Richie, however, he's going to take the biggest fall for this . . . and eventually so could Turner/Philbin/Sherman.

What evidence is there that Philbin told Incognito to toughen Martin up? edit I read further down and found the source. nvm.

Why doesn't anyone explain the obvious: That Martin NEEDS toughening up if he's to make it in his chosen profession. Were talking the NFL and its established norm of bullying men to a.) bring out the beast in them or b.) to win the line of scrimmage (in this case) during game play.

Are we now evidently also going to need to police the in-game scrums to assure that there's no verbal or physical bullying or abuse (by our outside ever softening standards) being perpetrated on the field?!

Right there with ya. I just want to focus on football...sigh.. At least PSU is looking up!

While I am pretty pissed at the clowns tarnishing my favorite thing I am not sure this is on the level of decades of child rape( especially against mentally challenged kids) and a cover up all the way to the top.

Uh yeah this isn't even remotely comparable to Penn State.

I'm sure over the history of football players were told to "toughen up" or players were told to help "toughen up" players.

I personally don't want to watch men who are soft playing this game.

I personally don't have a problem with Philbin telling anyone to toughen up Martin. It looks spot on to me.

He's not of a football character.

And ignorance rules the day once more ! The Second Mile kids were not mentally challenged, they were considered "at risk" youth. To put it in a real world context; Tweens from single mother homes and were completely disengaged from from their kids lives. That's how Jerry got away with it. Engaged parents, don't allow their kids to go to bowl game road trips with men in their 60's.

As were all going to see in the upcoming trials, the media meme coudn't be further from what actually happened. Not to mention the behind the scenes political agenda from Corbett and Surma's vendetta against Joe.

And that's fine ...up until it reaches a point where NFL rules or the law are being violated. The investigation (and any lawsuit that Martin might bring) will determine whether either of those things happened.

You do realize I said challenged and not retarded? The kids are deemed at risk and therefore challenged. Kids you find in drop out prevention programs, ESE Classes, ESDRAS, EH, etc. so before you even begin to speak of ignorance take a good look in the mirror.
