I'm numb to it. Does that make me fair-weather?

I remember back in the 80's and 90's how nervous I would get before a Bills or Jets game; now just meh. On the one hand I don't get as low as I used to after a loss. On the other hand I don't get as high as I used to after a win. I really miss the excitement of being relevant every game though. Even with the increased lows after a loss.

Nope. I'm numb to it too. All I can do is laugh after getting embarrassed. I'm not the type that switches things up so I'd never cheer for another team. I like my burgers a certain way, my pizza a certain way, etc. This here is getting to be quite pathetic with our Dolphins.

Burgers and pizza? You don't have a very good diet....lol

Ozzy rules!!

was a kid when we won in 72 and 73 so winning now would mean so much more. I saw all of the Marino years and got used to being at least close. Always competing for the division. It's been hard after that. I don't let the team ruin my whole week like they used to. At this point in my like is God first, then family and work. I still get very happy when we win and sad when we lose but I don't stay down for very long after a loss.

Ozzy rules!!

I've gotten to the point where I actually turn the game off before it's over, and I never used to do that, even during the 1-15 season. I flew down to Miami and was at the Bills game last week, me and my lady walked out the stadium after the Bills scored on the fumble recovery. She says: "Are you sure we should leave? I'll be really upset if they come back and win this game", my response: "Trust me, they won't". That's where we are...

Exactly! I feel the same, but the 14 points did get me because it was the patriots.

I remember thinking at the half, Belichick is gonna go in and make some adjustments and it'll be a horse of a different color in the second half. Who would've thought that we wouldn't even be able to score in the second half.

I think the "numbing" effect kinda started for me, the year we went 1-15..

I've been watching the Dolphins since probably 1988 or so when I was 10. Through the 90's and early 2000's losing would absolutely destroy at least the start of my week. We've been bad now for a decade+. Now I get neither high nor low. It's like I don't even care...but I do. Is anyone else at the shoulder shrugging point? Who still gets as wound up about winning and losing as much as they used to? Does this make me a fair-weather fan? I've never considered myself that fan, but now I'm questioning myself. Should I feel guilty about not really giving a flying F after games like this?

You're not a fair-weather fan. You're suffering from Abused Spouse Syndrome ... we all are.

Misery loves company:err:... I knew I was getting numb last year a little, and this year I, like another poster, will watch maybe the start, and once I get the feeling... which yesterday was the missed field goal to go up 20 - 3. I knew at that point. So I turned to Nascar to root against the 48 car. Kept an eye on the game every now and then to keep tabs. But even after seeing the final score later, didn't seem to bother me.
I will be turning 49 this December, and I used to pace, get so jacked up for games, I thought the let downs TY were due to getting older. Some of it is, but I am glad I am not alone. Took winning for granted sometimes. I grew up in the 70s and 80's. Enjoyed IU Hoosiers winning 4 National Championships, The Big Red Machine winning 2 world series, Celtics winning 3 NBA Titles with Bird, and of course the Dolphins going to 5 Super Bowls in that 20 years.

Really could go for another "hottest Dolphin fans" thread right about now to take my mind off this team a bit ....

The night before the Buffalo game I was having a hard time sleeping.

The night before New England I slept like a baby.

I'm 35 there's a mixture of numbness/anger. The moves in the offseason, the 3-0 start hell we beat the falcons and colts got me excited. Same old fins , before I'm dead I would like to see a Super Bowl, not sure the day will come.

Dude, sounds like my life story. Used to live and breathe Fins wins/losses back in the day. Anymore I get irritated but life goes on..until yesterdays game where I was as pissed off as I had been in the Marino era. That game reminded me of the Buffalo screwings we'd get yearly. Just turned 48 and am in southern IN too. Have a good one.

I'm happy as long as nobody else goes undefeated. That's always the ultimate priority, like I'm rooting for the '72 team all over again.

This year I was legitimately scared of the Broncos so when they lost a week ago Sunday night it was jubilation.

I have no expectations as long as we're in this stadium. To me it's a sign that the people atop the franchise have no clue what they are doing. Even more damning is we actually schemed to patch this dump and stay another quarter century.

When someone buys the Dolphins and announces plans to build a new stadium, and one that prioritizes fan impact, that's when I know we'll have a chance. I'm not confident it will happen within my lifetime. At least I have full memories of 1972 and 1973, season ticket holder both years after my dad bought tickets for the family beginning in 1972.

That new owner will also scrap the garbage logo and return to our heritage. It's a natural combo that any sharp guy would do. We've been stuck with so many overmatched and mediocre minds in our front office that we've lost all perspective toward what a bright guy is capable of. This season is particularly disgusting because we're stuck with Mike Dee's parting gift of a horrendous motion sickness logo and the accompanying boring helmet stripe. I'm still trying to convince myself it's not a bad dream.

Eh. There's more to life. Once Dwight Howard left Orlando, I think my fanhood for all my teams took a big hit. It's just not as much a priority anymore. I mean, I still spend just about as much time keeping track of my teams' performances, news and rumors, but just get less emotional about em.

I've always been numb to the losses since I've only been a fan since 2006. This year and the 3-0 start unfortunately get me very excited so these concurring losses are very painful. How do you lose 4 in a row after winning the first 3? It disgusts me. But I pretty much gave up hope after the Buffalo game so now I am numb again. Knew after the missed FG when we were up 17-3 we would lose.
