I've been having a very hard time figuring this out. I know Wayne is a nice guy, but he can't be that oblivious to what happened to the Dolphins and he seemingly cares about winning as much as anyone.

Wayne's reaction and love for Saban makes absolutely no sense. You can be nice about the way you criticise someone. You can state the obvious facts without being a jerk. Wayne didn't do that. He wished him luck and says he continues to support him.

The only possible explanation unless Wayne is as clueless as Saban, is that Wayne wanted him gone. I'm thinking it all started a month ago. Saban was adamant about coming back. Wayne sits down with him and asks if he's sure and Saban is stunned. Wayne suggests that he's made enough big mistakes and so many tiny ones as well, that he can't possibly feel that he's ready for the NFL and it might take him all 5 years just to get the team to the playoffs.

Wayne tells Saban he doesn't have to back off his stance about staying with the Dolphins but he should strongly consider other offers that represent big money. Especially in a much simpler coaching situation....back in college potentially. Meanwhile Wayne is in talks with Bama as well convincing them that Saban won't need much convincing.

Finally, Wayne goes over to Sabans this morning and says whatever your decision is, you're going to be stripped of a huge part of your control. You very obviously can't handle all the responsibility and if we want to win, you need to focus on those areas you are best suited to handle. Essentially he tells Saban he's going to be significantly demoted if he chooses to stay. Saban doesn't want to go to Alabama but makes the right decision.

Most of the media is in the know. They understand and like Saban so instead of raking him over the coles they don't ask the tough questions. Both Saban and Wayne look like they love each other, neither one comes off as an *** other than to the fans and next year we get back to our winning ways with a head coach that costs a whole lot less and is far better suited to coach in the NFL.

This is all speculation but it makes sense.

Absolutely. You don't give a guy carte blanche, pay him an enormous amount of money, continue to support all his blunders and then wish him good luck when he shows his poor character and runs away with his tail between his legs.

Only one answer, he was asked to leave rather than continue for 3 years with below average play.

This is all speculation but it makes sense.

PAUL IS DEAD AND I SHOT JFK....

WOW!!!!!

It could have gone down that way and both walk away saving face
and both are happy with the results. The only way that it wouldn't have gone that way is Wayne's history of being loyal way beyond what a normal human would deal with...example keeping Wanny for so long.

Great post and great speculation Ekinger,

At the very least, Saban told Wayne he couldn't handle it.

That would also account for Wayne wishing him good luck. You aren't going to beat a guy down that admits failure and tells you that he isn't able to continue and produce the outcome you are looking for.

I think Wayne realized he made Saban come to the pros when he didn't want to. He realized he and Saban made a mistake and felt bad because of it. He likes Saban and simply let him go back to peewee league where his true skill level lies.

ESPN said all morning how Wayne lured Saban away from the playground with a big candy sucker. So, Wayne realized Saban misses his mommy and let him go home.

You make a great point about Wayne's loyalty with Wanny. But I'll say this, Wanny was a better NFL coach than Saban.

Let's look at what Wayne did for Saban. He built a freakin' million dollar bubble to practice in. Where did that get us? The worst start in Dolphins history. The one advantage we've always had in September was the heat. We negated the ability to be any more acclimated by playing indoors. Huge mistake. I'm all for safety, but unless it was extremely dangerous we should be practicing outside. You use every advantage you can get. Saban took one away. That's just the first in hundreds of very basic errors.

IMO, Saban left 'cause he couldn't control everything. In college: no salary cap, forced turnover of good and bad players, and 25 new 1st picks per year(total of 85).

The pro game with it's restrictions didn't allow Saban the flexibility that college game does.

that's exactly it. about 2 or 3 weeks ago i said that...when saban took the job here...he was hesitant in leaving...he said no...but Mr. H. would not take no for an answer...until he finally gave in. even saban's agent was ready to tell Mr. H. thanks but no thanks and at the last moment...he was suprised to learn that saban decided to leave for miami.

that's it...he could not handle it...he told Mr. H. this job is not for me...so go find someone else because i've come to realize that i'm better suited for college than the pros.

Go Fins!!!

his wife and kids wanted out of south florida, too much sin i guess, amazing how a guy that seems straight up is a big liar

Paul shot JFK. I thought everyone knew that. Saban, in my opinion, will never coach in the NFL again. He can't handle the media glare, the hard questions and getting booed off the field at halftime. I hate the way he lied and doubletalked and jumped ship and allowed himself to be bought. He's a twofaced ***hole and I hope that he does really bad in Bama. I see no reason in the world to wish him well. He saddled us with alot of bad decisions and hit the road without finishing the job he promised to do. He's an arrogant control-freak and I won't miss his balless brand of football. Mr. punt, Mr. fieldgoal. 4th and one and he can't go for it!! Let's get a coach that gets the offense cranking bigtime. Let's keep Capers, dump MM and move on. In the first round if he comes out I like Brian Brohm to develope behind Daunte who I believe will come back and be great for us next year. That, along with Ricky coming back equals offense right away. 2nd round, go o-line or wide reciever. Can't neglect the offense anymore. Get Nate Clemons in FA and a great outside linebacker. Weren't we tired of Sabans control freak act anyway? It wasn't fun with him. He's just a tight*** kind of guy. Stoops, Mora Jr. or some brilliant offensive coordinator from some high flying offense. Good things for us in 2007!!! Let's not mourn the loss of Saban. He did us a favor. That's it. I said it, I meant it and I'm here to represent it!

i knew from the very minute even after saban said what appeared to be a strong comment, that he was gone because his agent was saying they wanted more money, so clearly his head wasnt with the dolphins anymore. This really pisses me off. wayne gave him everything he wanted. he got him his really expensive computers for intricate purposes, and he was one of the highest paid coaches in the nfl. How has he deserved that with a losing record.
