I've been having a very hard time figuring this out. I know Wayne is a nice guy, but he can't be that oblivious to what happened to the Dolphins and he seemingly cares about winning as much as anyone.
Wayne's reaction and love for Saban makes absolutely no sense. You can be nice about the way you criticise someone. You can state the obvious facts without being a jerk. Wayne didn't do that. He wished him luck and says he continues to support him.
The only possible explanation unless Wayne is as clueless as Saban, is that Wayne wanted him gone. I'm thinking it all started a month ago. Saban was adamant about coming back. Wayne sits down with him and asks if he's sure and Saban is stunned. Wayne suggests that he's made enough big mistakes and so many tiny ones as well, that he can't possibly feel that he's ready for the NFL and it might take him all 5 years just to get the team to the playoffs.
Wayne tells Saban he doesn't have to back off his stance about staying with the Dolphins but he should strongly consider other offers that represent big money. Especially in a much simpler coaching situation....back in college potentially. Meanwhile Wayne is in talks with Bama as well convincing them that Saban won't need much convincing.
Finally, Wayne goes over to Sabans this morning and says whatever your decision is, you're going to be stripped of a huge part of your control. You very obviously can't handle all the responsibility and if we want to win, you need to focus on those areas you are best suited to handle. Essentially he tells Saban he's going to be significantly demoted if he chooses to stay. Saban doesn't want to go to Alabama but makes the right decision.
Most of the media is in the know. They understand and like Saban so instead of raking him over the coles they don't ask the tough questions. Both Saban and Wayne look like they love each other, neither one comes off as an *** other than to the fans and next year we get back to our winning ways with a head coach that costs a whole lot less and is far better suited to coach in the NFL.
This is all speculation but it makes sense.
