I'm sure I am not the first one to say this..

Bingo.

Guys that suck hinder the ultimate direction of the team and therefore, held accountable.

When you defend a guy who is hurting the team, you're putting that individual above the team.

I understand if you want to defend a guy who has a bad game or makes some bone-headed plays, but when you defend some bum like CHAD HENNE week after week after losing week, I question whether or not you're a Dolphins fan at all.

I don't get why people waste their time questioning whether or not others are Dolphins fans.

The only time that I could see giving a rat's ass is if the person is talking about jumping ship if this or that happens. Those people I just don't get.

Personally I like to give players the benefit of the doubt. There are so many factors when it comes to evaluating football. As fans and spectators we only know one side of the story. We don't know what is going on in the huddles, what the coaches are saying, who messed up the play and so on. But people like to act as if they are in the know, and therefore trash players without looking at all the possible scenarios.

Now that's not saying this is the case all the time. Brandon Marshall dropping TD after TD is on him. Columbo tripping over his own feet and getting the QB wrecked is on him.

But people will continue to act as though they are in the know. They see ALL perspectives. They understand what is going on EXACTLY from their lazy-boy. Me, I am no different than the average fan but I give tons of credit to the people, especially on this site that can break down plays, and analyze them and shed some light on what you saw in 5 seconds on your tv, there was a lot more going on then you realized. I think CKParrot does a great job of breaking things down.

It happens on a lot of forum sites, it's not unique to the Dolphins. Some people watch a game and find one or two things they like and focus on that. Some like to dwell on what they didn't like. Neither is right or wrong it's just how we're wired.

You must be new to the site. Just wait till tanne throws his first int during training camp and/or a preseason game

LOL...yup, chicken little central in here once the season starts.....get ready for the sky falling soon, and all the Dolphin players that suck.

I guess if you continually tell yourself trashing your team makes you a better fan, you will eventually believe it.

Uh it's not about "trashing your team" its about honesty, objectivity and living in reality. I'm 25 years old, I've been a hardcore fan since I was about 13, and the team has basically been a big disappointing heap of depression for that time frame... I want the team to get better, I want a real QB, and I refuse to endorse the Wade Smiths and Reggie Howards of the world.

Actually what will be even more annoying this season is until he proves he's not ready in real game action start Tannehill will be the answer to all of our issues. We go 4-0 and lose a game with an average QB outing we see Start Tannehill threads. We lose 51-48 start Tannehill. Moore or Garrard throw pick after a good string of solid play start Tannehill. The D blows a 4th quarter lead start Tannehill. We lose to an obviously superior team start Tannehill. We start Tannehill and he's average there will be a good mix of Tannehills a bust threads and threads trying to convince the masses that despite the average performance he actually played really well. I've been here since 2002 this is how it will play out.

ha ha ha...let's start 4-0 first for once...

Yeah, there's the reverse of the medal. If we do start 4-0, people's expectations here will leap to the next galaxy! This is the NFL, and the NFL is very much like life itself. It has its ups and downs. As our team is now, in its first year under new coaching, there are sure to be some growing pains. Even if we do look hot to start the season, those growing pains will show up somewhere, and probably where its least expected. As fans we have to try to find an even keel from which to objectively observe what happens. I council the people on this forum to try to find a balance in their expectations and just absorb the season. If we truly suck throughout the year, I'll be disappointed for sure. But I will also know there's hope for the future. If we get hot, it will confirm what we are being told by the staff as we speak. That the Dolphins are a cusp playoff team that really just needs a little tweaking. The bottom line is that as fans we just don't know yet. We don't have access to what's really going on with the fins right now. We don't have access to their competition to know what's really going on with them either. So let things develop and give us some real clues before start worrying about this and that and forming expectations in our heads that could be completely irrelevant by week 8 of the season.

That's what happens when you're the biggest Dolphins fansite on the interwebs. You get the entire range of reactions. Of course you will see more overreaction immediately following (and during games). Hell, I'm guilty of being pissed at bonehead plays, so I just try not to post immediately after games. It's not any different on any other big fansite. Actually, it's 10 times worse on college football sites. Just check out PSU reactions after the sanctions...

And there won't be guys talking Super Bowl after our first preseason win? Extremes on both sides.

LOL.....No, we should get a new QB every year, that will work.

If the one the year before sucks, absolutely. I have a better idea: get a GOOD QB. Hopefully that's Tannehill.

This is me to a T. All I've really known is continuous disappointment. I think we all are frustrated and rightfully so, It's been too long with same ole BS. ****ier Qbs not getting us anywhere. I like MM and hope he can continue what he did at the end last year but we aren't getting anywhere w/ our WR crop. We were in so many games last year and just couldn't finish. :story of my Dolfans life:

I think that what happens to some fans is what you read above, OP: they like to believe that they are somehow responsible for evaluating players and getting them on and off the team, therefore they don't want to appear weak, or give them a break, as that would hurt the team. Then again, many other fans don't care, they just use football to get all their frustrations out of their system.

But I think you've got the right idea, OP, in that supporting players will help them to improve their performance, even if only a little, above their original limitations. It's the coaches' job to push the players and the fans' job to support them, that's the way I see it. If everyone simply pushes, you end up crushing people's spirit, just as, if everyone just supports, you make players weak.

Oh, and people who claim to simply be objective ought to work at making their manner of expressing their opinions match their objectivity. Objectivity is, by definition, dispassionate, cold and detached, not passionate and frustrated.

Aren't we always.

If that ever happened, I don't know what either side would be able to do with themselves. :D I am crossing my fingers also for Tannehill.

Insomnia, I know you are passionate about the team, but it seems that every post that comes from you, seems to be against the team, or players of the team. Writing what you think is the truth (Whether good or bad) is not the problem, its continually ragging on the team/players or finding anyone that may also be saying something against Miami.

It's like (on the other side) someone that continually tells you that this player is great, the Dolphins are going to be great, the coaching staff is going to be great, the Dolphins owner is awesome...eventually it going to bother you.

This is not a knock on you, I know you are passionate about this team, and if Miami were to win a superbowl, you would be the 1st to totally flip out and celebrate for months.

You need slow down the negativity a bit, we probably are nowhere close to a 10-12 game winning team (Even though history tells us, it's possible), but we are probably also not a 4-6 game winning team (Even though again, very possible). We have some talent on this team, try to enjoy it a little bit.

Maybe you need some sleep.
