Randy is very similar to Chambers was before last season in the sense that he has always sort of underachieved. He has similar talents as some of the great tight ends in the league, and he has shown flashes that he could be great. But for whatever reason he has not strung it together the whole season. The biggest reason Drew Brees had success the last 2 years was Antonio Gates becoming his favorite target. I know LT helps, but Brees had LT and they drafted Philip Rivers. I think that McMichael would be the single most beneficial person if we were to get Brees.

I think Mularkey would have more to do with Randy reaching his potential than Brees would. Mularkey (a former tightend himself) loves to get his TE involved in the passing game. He will fall in love with Randy if he already hasn't. I think his playcalling will be the deciding factor for McMike this year.

good possibility... since Brees has shown a connection with the TE...

However, it is going to be greatly effected by how much we choose to use our TEs in the passing game. This past season, McMike was used as a blocker in alot of passing situations...

I agree - Mularky will have more impact on McMichael than Brees. The plays will get the TE open more thus having Brees throw to him more often. It is good that Brees is used to throwing to a TE though as that check will come naturally to him.

Now - if we can just land the guy.

There really hasn't been a great TE under Mularkey, though I know he will take advantage of his best players, and McMichael is obviously one of those guys. Mularkey got Kordell Stewart to the Pro Bowl, and Tommy Maddox to his best year of his career. So it is obvious the guy knows what he is doing. And Ronnie Brown should really thrive under Mularkey. Ronnie is going to have a breakout year, trust me he knows that there is a lot of naysayers out there, and wants to prove he was worth the 2nd pick in the draft. I think with Houck and Mularkey, he will be able to do that.

That would be a sweet hook up.

Another sweet hook up will be Brees and Chambers.
