IMO we should have kept Shelton or should sign a Free Agent Guard/Tackle

I know alot of you dont like him. But hes not a terrible player to have at RT. Then we could have the rookies like Murphy,Thomas sit the bench for a year and allow Carey to play LG beside Long to help him through his 1st year since he will make a few mistakes and it would help to have a veteran like Carey there to cover the slack. I really like Carey at RT but Id rather put Smiley at RG and Carey at LG. We will still be ok. IMO i also think we should still sign Shane Olivea. For some reason I just dont like a rookie playing LG. We could put Smiley at LG but HE is more of a RG i think. I would rather have only 1 rookie starting on the line this year than 2. If we could have kept Shelton or sign Olivea or even a Bary Sims or Chris Naeole. I forgot about Larry Allen whom is old but still very competitive. Anthony Clement would be a viable option as well. Im just not sold on Shawn Murphy,Thomas,Nduklwe,Darilek,Def not Mormino . I would be way more confident with one of the above mentioned names starting on the line. Ronnie and Ricky will have many yards with whoever is there with our vastly improved Oline but its alot of pressure for a rookie starting on the Oline for a Parcells team knowing that if they dont perform they will be cut or benched. So lets bring in a vet and have the competition and see who makes it , My guess would be the veteran. Oh Yeah Im not as sold as everyone else on here for JL starting at LT his rookie year.. If Im Beck or Henne, or even McCown I think I want Carey blocking my Blindside this year so Long can get used to the game at this level
 
I'm not crazy about a weebles type player on the OL - he was a damned turnstile for cryin' out loud.

In time, our OL will be fine barring injuries.
 
why would you move Carey to guard? He's played a near Pro Bowl level for the past two years at tackle.

Carey is a great Right Tackle. He is a very mediocre left tackle. There is a reason we're moving him back to right tackle.

Shelton was pretty immobile. Seemed like a pretty good backup, though. However, may he was payed too much to be a backup. 2-years ago, Shelton was a turnstyle; he played much better last year.

Wilson isn't a very good backup Tackle, but he's cheap. Sometimes you get what you pay for, though. We better hope our Tackles stay healthy this year, as we don't have an adequate backup.
 
our offensive line is our best unit now, and they are a good mix of young and veterans, with a young center and left tackle to anchor it, what else could we want
 
Shelton played really well at RG, I would have put him there

exactly......... Carey and Long are tackles..... good ones !! Smiley and Satele are starters. Shelton would have completed the line as a Guard IMO. Problem is he was overpaid as a tackle, injury prone, and not as young as the rest of our lineman.

Yes he is, he is completely terrible... not to mention all the holding and false start penalties.. If we HAD to keep him, his position would have to be RG, I would not trust him ANYWHERE else on the line
 
I'm not worried about it. If BP thinks we need one for insurance, we'll pick one up after the June 1st cuts.
 
for the first time in a long time we have some real talent up front....it will take some time for them to gel,specially with 2 rookies likely to start,but we need to play them and give them time...I'm hoping that by midseason our o-line will be a top unit for us.

Because we are rebuilding and he is average at best. I would hope the rookies are an improvement, if not initially, then by the time they get some experience.
 
Shelton was part of the past regime. We need to change the culture of our locker room. Shelton was part of this. Even if Murphy or Mormino struggle this upcoming season, I would still rather have them. We need to cut most ties with the former FOs players
