How much can it help with the run blocking.

Our vanilla helmet on helmet blocking scheme was killed with all the unexpected blitzing. I know that will improve with the true blocking scheme when we implement it, but How much can a scheme improve the Run blocking?? I am not experienced in this subject, but I hope it will help more than I think it can help, when I consider that Run blocking is more push than good schemes. Anyone have more insight on this?

Our running back's inabillty to pick up blitzes killed us a hell of a lot more then anything the O-line did...

Dude our pass protection along the OL tonight was head and shoulders above last year. I don't see why ANYONE should be too concerned about that.

Baby steps.

That is part of the blocking scheme, letting players go to pick up the blitz and allowing the back to get the free man. Or just letting the back stop the blitzer. Its not the inability to stop the blitz, its the vanilla scheme we had in place didnt call for them to stop it.

I know it was, I was happy with our pass protection. I also know that after we stop the vanilla crap we will be even better. I am just wondering about how much the real blocking scheme can help the run blocking.

I wonder the same thing. It just didn't seem like we were getting a lot of push, but maybe those blitzes were affecting the running game as well.

Like I said, baby steps. What you have to understand is how well things are connected. Getting that pass protection there was not just key to the passing game, but the running game too. We have the protection to let our dangerous WRs hurt teams, and that will get teams to back those safeties off a little and stop focusing on the run game. That would work out for defenses if we had our old runningbacks, but now we have Ricky and Ronnie to make them PAY for backing off...regardless really of what the OL does. If you pay attention, this is how Houck has operated in the past.

Ain't that the truth!

It should improve all throughout training camp. We probably did not game plan for the many blitzes we saw and we will slowly develop toward a complete scheme.

the Bears REALLY brought the heat tonight... i think it was a good thing for our guys to get that the first night.. might bring them together as a unit a little more quickly

Saban is not going to show to much of anything this early in TC. He will keep it all a surprise.
