So do you guys think however we look tomorrow night is a preview of how the season will go? Coaches always stress the importance of game 3 being a dress rehersal.

Just this week I have seen good from teams I expect to be good like the Eagles and Packers. I have seen bad from the Steelers, Jags and Raiders. Which is what I expect the season to look like for those teams. So I do buy into the importance of game 3

It's a better look than any other PS game, but defenses are still vanilla. We won't see our QB trying to operate when the defense is specifically trying to take away what this offense does well for a little while longer. Defenses are not doing that yet and there is no tape of Tannehill operating this offense yet.

My friends who bet preseason like game 3 because you get a lot of home team blow outs. Often the home team indeed takes the game seriously, like a dress rehearsal, and since the starters remain in the game longer it can translate to a wide margin. The road team sometimes doesn't show up, especially if it's a confident team that has post season designs. They don't think they have to prove anything. The lower level teams generally keep fighting, knowing they can't afford to take a game off.

it's not that its a sure fire way to tell the overall record fo the team. but its a good way to tell about individuals.

Game 3 of the preseason is a good time to preemptively come up with reasons why a good showing by the team will be meaningless while simultaneously implying that a poor showing will be meaningful.

In that sense, game 3 of the preseason is extremely important. It helps maintain the ebb and flow of message board arguments by allowing entrenched posters to deflect or advance further arguments to come.
