The emergence/production of Holmes and his background similarity to Ginn underscores the fact that Ted needs to get a lot bigger/stronger and practice routes 24/7.

Straight-up, Ted has significantly superior physical chops to Holmes and IF (???) he’s got it between the ears (and in the heart) the kid could be a dominant force down the road.

Of course the ball is in Ted’s court and he’ll have to work his arse off to take the next big step. My impression tells me Parcells, Sparano and Co. have the insight to motivate Tedd to be something special...

My hope at least.

To this point Holmes has shown more poetential, however hsaving a SB level team and QB around you helps that quite a bit. I will say Big Ben is not the greatest SB type QB, but he does seem to make just enough plays to get the job done, just like the last drive last night. I think Ted Ginn will show his real abilities when he gets a QB that not only has an Oline that can protect him, but an arm to chuck it deep.

You mean because he's faster?

He does not have superior chops, he's just a faster, track guy.

I don't think he lacks anything upstairs or in the heart department either. He doesn't have the route running experience from college, or route running in traffic, 'chops', that's his problem.

He got a lot better this year. He played much more aggresively especially with his routes across the middle, but I think a WR who already had those chops in college will probably still come into the NFL ahead of him. He is a speed WR, he's not a posession running, precise route WR.

I think his numbers will improve next year, but he will never be a blue chip WR. He is simply not in the same category as Fitzgerald or Boldin. We still need to get an 'X' WR.

Holmes was thrown to 21 more times this season and only had 31 more receiving yards. He was also in his third year compared to Ginn being in his 2nd. Why is Holmes so much better than Ginn?

I think the comparison is fair... Similar skill sets... Both athletic and quick... Holmes is obviously more mature and savvy. What I loved about Holmes's performance last night was how he took it to another level when his team needed it. He had another gear. He DEMANDED the ball when it counted and really gave Ben no other option...

This is what i would LOVE to see out if Ginn... Confidence that says gimme the ball I will make it happen. I saw so much progress in his game if he can make that same kind of 'leap' in confidence he could be something special.

Holmes is a much tougher receiver which gives him more yacs. He has that it factor that Ginn is missing in the NFL. Ginn had that it factor in college but he has not brought it to the NFL yet. I think we will see Ginn put on 10-15 lbs of muscle this off season and he will be a yr away from being a factor in this league. If not I dont see us resigning him after his contract is up. I think this offseason will do him good, having the same coaching staff and routine that he is familar with will help......I'm rooting for him...

Good points, I also loved how he made the tough catch to win the game, one play after dropping a catchable ball (tough, but catchable). Holmes is a playmaker and Ginn just isnt there yet.

Y'all can argue over Santonio v Ted all you want.

If I take 1 WR that came out of Columbus recently then my choice is Anthony Gonzalez of the Colts.

teddy ginn will emerge as a premiere receiver...

I'm not sure why. Both Santonio and Ginn are superior physical talents who have put up as good and better numbers than Gonzalez while being the #1 WR on their teams instead of the second or third behind Wayne and Harrison.

Holmes had 222 Yards after catch on 55 catches. Ginn had 204 YAC on 56 catches. Those numbers are pretty similiar.

Holmes has always been a more refined player than Ginn has even in his college days. Also, Holmes plays opposite of Hines Ward so that is something you can take into account.

I agree we still need an X reciever but lets assume we do get an X receviver. Who gets the bench?

Ginn? Camarillo? Bess?

Santonio is probably the better all around "football player". He played D at OSU as well. He was on the field ALOT. Teddy's going to be fine. I look for him to really emerge this year. Go Bucks!

Bess ended up taking Camarillo's spot when he got injured, prior to that those guys weren't usually all on the field at the same time anyway.

I think after the way that Bess came on last year, Camarillo will be worked back into the swing of things slowly. He IS coming off major knee surgery...
