Impressive achievement for Fins

Just don't agree with this at all. If our offense could score more than 20 points/game our D wouldn't be on the field the entire game. The only team in the league that hasn't sniffed 30 points. That's entirely on Ireland.

Us having not scored 30+ in a game has what to do with Ireland? I think he's been an overall below average GM, but how does in-season under achievement not fall on Philbin and Sherman? Does Ireland manage in-game calls? Does he run the offense? He got us the players, sure, but Philbin and Sherman have been straight garbage with their halftime adjustments.

Our OC and HC have let down our quarterback and defense all season long. If games ended at half time we'd be like 9-3. If we had just an average offense, we'd be 9-3. Our defense has been great for the most part and only broke down against the Saints.

I blame Philbin's system and Sherman's playcalling (and lack of good adjustments) for the offense's inability to score more points.

Having the worst O-line in the league has nothing to do with our ineptness on offense? The fact that we spent less on offense than every team in the league except Oakland, is that Philbin's fault? This while having $22 million sitting in the bank, only four other teams went into the season with more cap room left than us (all terrible rebuilding teams).

It wasn't the play calling that couldn't punch the ball in last week on 3rd and goal. It was the execution. This happens with young teams - inconsistency. It's frustrating but comes with a developing team.

As for our D...yea, they are seriously good. I would like to see as many as possible come back next year. Grimes particularly.

This makes a lot of sense, given Coyle was known for his outstanding secondary at Cinci for years. He's making our guys better game by game and he's got a solid scheme. I'm sure the pressure packages are helping these secondary numbers too. Now, if we could just get the line backing core up to that level of play as well . . .

it is absolutely great because Miami can draft other positions, DB´s is a more than deep unit, just sign grimes to a long term deal.

Let me say also that having Koa Misi healthy is a must. when he is not there opposing teams run like wild. he is the best LB against the run we have.

(On if Philip Wheeler and Dannell Ellerbe are playing better now than they were earlier in the season) - “I do. I think they’ve both given great effort since day one in everything that they’ve done. I think their comfort level in the system in the roles that we’ve asked them to take up you can see it, particularly in Philip in the last couple of weeks. He’s playing with a lot more confidence. He’s a lot more sure of himself and what he is doing out there. He flies around. He had a heck of a game I thought yesterday, Dannell as well. Both of them made impact plays in the game. The interception Dannell made was exceptional there. That was a critical point in the game. It’s a game where you felt geez we’re dominating the game yet one slip (we) could have been losing the game at halftime. Then (Ellerbe) made the pick. We got the field goal right before the end of the half and we moved on from there. I think both of those guys, and another guy I just can’t say enough about is Koa Misi. Sometimes he doesn’t get as many snaps in certain packages, but when you watch the tape and you watch number 55 on tape, there is nobody that plays any harder than Koa Misi or as effective. He’s having a heck of a year, he really is.”

And yet, his two interceptions are second-most on the team. Opposing teams have managed a passer rating of just 59.6 when throwing in his direction. Ellerbe has allowed only one touchdown pass all season.

“I like the way he is playing the game,” Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said. “He plays fast. He plays hard. I’m glad we’ve have him. I like what he is doing.”

Philbin will probably like Ellerbe even more when he finally gets comfortable in Kevin Coyle’s 4-3 defense.

The fifth-year linebacker acknowledged this week that he’s still not a natural in the system after playing the 3-4 with Baltimore. He was one of two inside linebackers in that scheme. Now, he’s alone in the middle, with added responsibilities.

“I’m really not able to go play fast and shoot like I was last year,” Ellerbe admitted.

He doesn’t know if he’ll get to that point this season, either.

Philbin made a point to mention Ellerbe has a better command of the defense and makes adjustments faster than he did earlier in the year.

I know this is the microwave generation, and no logic is reasonable, because these guys are the robots we watch on TV each Sunday and everything should be perfect immediately, even though the reality of that is simply impossible.

But, when these two young fast linebackers, both of them coming from 3-4 Defenses, continue to get comfortable in this defense. Especially now since we are currently 9th in PPG, we are going to shoot to top 5 Defensively easily..

good stuff crazy

Wheeler has been a disappointment to me but seems to be getting better.

i think Dansby and Burnett were better against the run but the new guys match up better covering tight ends which has been a sore spot for many years now.. Their upside is much higher.

This . . . I thank you as well, Crazy

Is this for real? Our cap space is high artificially... since you're throwing around cap numbers, then you must be aware that we have guys like Mike Wallace who are making $1mil this year against $17mil next year... he is just one of a few players who has their contract structured that way - did you think Miami just left money on the table just for the hell of it?

Moreover, our OL has been playing better as of late which signifies to me that they were not being coached correctly. When we make a concerted effort to run, and run nicely designed run plays, we succeed at about an average pace. Do we need a lot of work? Sure, but the OL has definitely been playing significantly better the last few weeks and still we struggle.

I think it was most obvious how inept the offense and offensive play calling is the past two weeks. Against Carolina three times in the first half we started on their side of the field and we came away with 6 points from it. Last week, even though we started blowing out the Jets in the second half, we couldn't score in the first unless they shoved the points down our throats for us.

You see Sherman continually calling the same short 3-5 yard pass players as a substitute for trying to even make an attempt to run the ball. We make no use of motion for our receivers, we don't do roll outs, bootlegs, or play action. We run and pass mostly out of shotgun, and we demand Tannehill win the whole game for us while telling other teams that all we are going to do is throw the ball.

Our offensive problems are fundamental, and it begins and ends with Sherman's play-calling and Philbin's philosophy. Whether they don't believe in this running game, or just running period, they're the two people most responsible for the underachievement of our offense.

LOL. Might be just me but trading for a Left Tackle might have had a little something to do with the improved line play don't cha think? Nah, you're right, its pure coincidence and the coaches finally got their heads out of their asses...

I also don't want to hear this BS about our cap numbers being the way they are because Ireland is a strategic genius, more than half the teams in the league can make the same arguments that a lot of their contracts are backloaded so the fact we spent less than on offense than almost every team stands. On top of that I'm hearing estimates that we'll have $50-60 million in cap space next season. Clearly we're saving that money for something next season, its just too bad its at the peril of this season.
