The offenses performance last week was a nice change from the last regime and was a welcome site to many of us phinfans. That being said, we have some improvements to make from last week to get a critical division win on the road. The following are offensive keys to the game:

  1. Stop the penalities: If we continue last weeks trend, we will lose. The Jets will be pumped up for their home opener and a division rivalry.
  2. Improve the running game. To be succesful throwing the ball like last week, we need to give Gus and the O line some protection by running the ball. If Ronnie can gain 3-4 yards per carry, the play action will open up and McMike and the wide outs can make some plays down field. I prefer the down field approach, but it is contingent on a good running game (unless Marino is the QB and no running game is neccessary).
  3. Chambers needs to step it up. This may not be a popular view, but he needs to make the big play. The reverse from last week was more of the right call being made as opposed to the player making the play. We need to see some game breaking plays from CC instead of the drops from last week. He is a #1 receiver, this is the year to show his stuff because Linehan will give him the ball.
I thoroughly enjoyed last weeks victory and am happy to see the offense open things up. I anticipate the same aggesive O from our new coaches.

On a personal note, it was nice to watch the game with a new phinfan. My 19th month old son can now join me in the rec room with his ZT jersey every Sunday and root on our Phins. It's nice to bring more Phin fans into this world!

I was thinking about that play today. I agree that it was a team effort and a good play call. Stepping out of bounds was like dropping a pass, lack of concentration or focus. He lost track of the sideline. Would have been a rushing stat too.

Great post. I agree that the running game was subpar. We need to see a lot better run blocking from our O-line. I was very pleased with their pass blocking.

I have been saying for a long time that Chris Chambers needs to step up his game. I still feel the same.

I believe now that Chambers knows that they got the QB to go deep with he found that out Sunday. Chambers went along time going down the field without getting the ball to him he will adjust. I just hope our oline is good or better and i think that Saban can help correct the stupid penalties

Chambers is key to the offense, but he needs to make the plays now. He should be the leader of the offense. I don't want to hear about potential, we need to see it.

Rick Spielman made the mistake of paying Chambers like a #1 WR before he ever proved he was one. Now he's in cruise control with all his money.

He should be thinking that if he doesn't prove his "value" this season he may very well be playing for another team next year.

I for the most agree with you.I do however really believe Saban kinda took it easy on Ronnie Brown. What I mean is that he didn't want to have Ronnie feel he had to "carry the offense" for Miami. To me it's why we saw so many of those quick, short passes to our WR's(also to try to make the CB's play up to set up the deep ball).I think Ronnie will get a little more work(number of carries) this week.JMO

Agreed with your point. I think the next two games will really give us a feel for the strengths and weaknesses of our offense. The play calling is first rate. The receivers we have are a strength. The running backs are fine and will get better when ricky returns. What will determine the effectiveness of our offensive attack will be Gus and the offensive line. Facing the Jets and Panthers will go a long way to being to evaluate how good they'll be. The thing I'm going to be looking for is how we handle a blitzing defense
