While growing up in California, Derek Hagan took up fishing as a hobby. It was something he did with teammates and friends at nearby lakes to relax. Hagan didn't necessarily go out to make a catch, but when he did, he said it brought a smile to his face.

"If I catch one, I'm happy," Hagan said.

If football were fishing, Hagan wouldn't be smiling. The Dolphins' rookie receiver has caught 16 passes for 175 yards but would have more if he didn't drop the ball so many times. Hagan, a third-round draft pick (82nd pick overall), has dropped at least six passes this season, including two last week against the Lions. He also dropped a potential touchdown pass in a 34-24 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Oct. 22.

Coach Nick Saban says being a rookie in his first NFL season is one of the reasons for Hagan's inconsistency.

it's a story straight outta the Bikini Bottom Gazette..."SpongeHand SquareRoute Can't Catch"!!!

Immaturity at it's finest. He's a rookie, of course he's going to drop balls, once he gets use to the atmosphere, he'll be fine.

Chambers had one of his best years as a rookie. I almost wish he were still that good.

too bad he's been dropping big ones...all over the field.

Chambers actually lacked a lot of fundamentals that year. He usually just ran deep and had Fiedler toss it up. He became a more complete receiver.

I still think Chambers best year was 03. He didn't have as many yards, but he was more clutch than last year (until the end of the season).

Hagen would have a hard time catching a cold, nevermind a football. He needs to be on the practice squad and add someone else to the active roster.

I say put Vick in as the 4th receiver and take Hagan out. Vick is currently the 5th.

Hagan WILL be good, i think he replaces booker next year if we let him go. He needs to work on the drops but he has very good size and could be a great #2 for us in the future.

LMAO You guys just never learn do you?

Ronnie's a bust, oooooops.

Roth's a bust, oooooops.

Hagan isn't alone in his struggles. Only two receivers chosen ahead of him are playing consistently, Pittsburgh's Santonio Holmes (25th pick in the draft) and Green Bay's Greg Jennings (52nd). The Giants' Sinorice Moss (44nd) has caught only one pass for 4 yards because of hamstring injuries and Cleveland's Travis Wilson (78th) has played in only one game.

You mean other rookies struggle too?

Come on now, I know you're not being serious.

Hagan had 2 huge drops in the Detroit game that could've been first downs that ended up being 4th downs. The more Hagan struggles, the more it limits our offense. If he were excelling as a wide out, we could spread him out wide and move Chambers to the slot. But Saban doesn't feel comfortable taking Welker out of the game for Hagan and I don't think teams would respect him out there.

QFT. Gotta love how players get one season to be breakout superstars or they're completely worthless on these boards.

I don't think any one here thinks he's completely worthless. We just expect him to catch the ball when it hits him square in the chest. If you're a rookie, you have to make those catches otherwise you'll neve see the field.

It's funny how some folks give Chambers a free pass on the drops even though he's our #1 and has been doing it for the last 6 years, yet Hagan, our #4 is labeled a bust for doing the same in his rookie year with us

Give the kid a break, he's our 4th WR you expect things like this from your 4th especially in his rookie season.
