Rumour was, Chip Kelly wanted to be reunited with his 3-4 OLB Dion Jordan and was willing to offer Brandon Graham, a DE best suited to a 4-3, plus a 2nd round pick.

I said back then I would take it but understood the salary cap issues and the reason why we did not. In hindsight would you make that trade considering the players who were available in draft from Phillys pick to our pick of Jarvis Landry:-

This is how I would have chosen.

I like Kouandijio but feel he wouldn't suit our ZBS.
I like Carlos Hyde but after signing Moreno I would have gone elsewhere.
I would have chosen Jack Mewhort. Although I feel there is better value, IMO he best suited need and system.

In essence would I prefer Graham & Mewhort or Jordan with no cap penalty.

In hindsight I would stick with Jordan. Graham is a one year deal, thus next year you are choosing Mewhort and cap issue over Jordan.

Maybe long winded but thought id be honest and state my thought process.

Who said Brandon Graham was best suited as a DE in the 4-3? I've always seen him as a 3-4 OLB since his days at Michigan.

There's no way we could have traded Jordan and not taken a huge hit in the salary cap...almost $5.6 million against the cap.

NO way, after paying him for his draft position common sense demands that you do everything you can to make that a worthwhile investment.

If Wake goes out for the year, or if there are any serious injuries at DE, he is there poised to make his push

Trading Dion Jordan after his first year would have netted us a $10 million cap hit in dead money......just to trade him, and then we also assume the salaries of whoever we receive. That's all you need to know really.

Yeah, $5M this year and $5M next year, and for what?

In hindsight I wished we never picked him at all, but as they say it's 20/20 so let's work him up so we get the value we put out.

No. The cap ramifications made it impossible.

Well obviously he's going to see his fair share of snaps. Why don't we wait and see what kind of an impact, if any be can make. I admit I'm pessimistic it's a very big one but the proof will be in the pudding. Seems like Jordan is the guy who spells Vernon.
