In light of a new coaching regime, here is a fresh look at some backups that should supplant some aged veterans and see what they got. This segment is about getting rid of the trash and seeing what potiential, if any, some of our prospects have since it looks like this team will be rebuilding for the next 3 years anyway.

Later Damion McIntosh and LJ Shelton
Hello Anthony Alabi. This guy was touted as having all the physical tools to play LT and just needed to bulk up. Its year 3 and he's bulked up as much as he is able. Also, Saban said this kid was a rising star. He should enter camp as the potential #1 option at tackle and see what he can do.

Later Jeno James
Hello Joe Toledo. A 4th round pick is relatively high for a guard and there is no reason he cant supplant James who is proven to be sub-par anyways. Toledo is a good athlete and another Houck draft choice that should fit his blocking scheme.

Later Zgonina
Hello Fred Evans. Evans immediatly flashed talent in camp which is a great sign for a rookie (Unlike Jason Allen). Let the guy get some gametime cus it sounds like the tools are there. Experience should have this guy playing younger and better than Zgonina. Not to mention Vickerson shouldn't be wasting away on the inactive list either.

Later Big Daddy
Hello Wright and Wright. I dont care, throw these guys into the fire and let em play. Tons of potential and we need youth, not old guys who dont even start anymore. Never ever have a washed up veteran taking up the roster spot of a developing prospect.

Later Marty Booker and Wes Welker
Hello Hagan and Vick. Booker isn't playing up to his contract and although he played better than Chambers this year, he simply isn't the answer anymore at age 31. I have not been impressed with Welker either. He seems slow and doesn't scare me as a kick returner or punt returner. Although reliable and should still have a spot low on the depth chart, he has reached his ceiling and isn't a #3 receiver or a big play returner. It should also be noted that Chambers should be demoted and is not a #1 receiver. He stays because he's still just 28 and would make a good #2 to someone else. This position is very thin, but look what Brady did with that corp. These new guys need to go out there and get some PT.

Later Joey Harrington
Hello Cleo Lemon. Harrington is what he is. Give the #2 job to Lemon and start looking for rookie prospects. Vick should also be given a shot at a QB job.

Later anyone who plays RG
Give the job to Tonui Fonoti. IF (big if) he can get his cheeseburgers under control, this guy has the size, ability and experience to play in Houcks system, which he did in San Diego. He's only 25 and at least if he stinks, he wont get pushed back 3 yards on every play. And didn't this guy make a pro bowl? In all fairness, LJ Shelton was the best RG we fielded this year, but at his age and salary, that isn't wise to keep him there.

Later Ricky Williams
Hello draft pick. This is a rebuilding team and Sammy Morris is just fine for a backup. This team needs draft picks and lots of em. If Ricky gets you a 3rd, Id jump on it. RBs are a dime a dozen and Ronnie Brown has proven he can carry the load.

Later Zach Thomas
Hello Derrick Pope/draft pick. Tough to say, but at 34 he has taken a lot of hits. Id save that cap space and let someone tell me later what a moron I am for saying this. It would be symbolic that this defense is infusing youth and Id rather invest in a rising stock that a falling one. I think its just time. Let ZT go to the Patriots and win the championship he deserves.

Later Vonnie Holiday
Hello previously mentioned D-linemen (which may include Matt Roth depending on position.)
I struggled with this one because I like the continuity Holiday, Carter, Traylor and Taylor brought to the line, but Holiday is 31 and is a FA. This is strictly a business move and I dont see paying Holiday big money with the depth behind him. On a similar note, I think Kevin Carter is indispensable. He's an excellent veteran who is durable and would be a priceless leader to the defense.

Honorable Mention
Renaldo Hill for Jason Allen
Hill had a solid season, but that was it. Just solid. I think he's an extremely valuable DB because of his versatility, but lets see why we spend a #16 pick on this other kid.

Talking coaching, FA, and drafts if just fine, but lets start with our current roster and get some take on it before we go wild with specualation.

If we do what your saying, this team will likely win 2 games next year. You cannot have an entire team of rookies.

Made sense but I stopped reading after the welker comment...All i saw him do all season was catch 3rd downs. Slow? Not in the least, he is small, quick, and shifty and was just about the most consistent thing this year for the majority of the season...Not to mention has all the heart in the world...

And exactly what do you think we could get out of ricky williams? Do you think he is letting go for a 6 or a 7th rounder. Looks like you ant to get rid of our entire team pretty much. Pope? What do you think Pope would do in place of Zach..Is this because he had one good hit in the Pitt game last season, he hasnt been on the feild in over a year..Besides, Crowder is going to be our future in the middle...Some of this is good, the last half isnt in the least.

You sound like that elliot guy that wanted to trade our best Ronnie, offensive weapon in another thread and let Sammie start

Your right about our D-line. Your pretty much wrong about the rest.

You are nuts in your criticisms of Booker and Welker. The WR that should be traded is CC.
How many clutch 3rd down catches has WW made this year? You obviously are mesmerized by how a player looks on paper and don't bother to study the games.

wow ur a horrible gm...crowder would take zach's spot not pope, we should keep zach, holliday, welker, and booker and ricky

exactly my point above...I dont know which welker he is talking about, but there is no way it is the welker who plays for the Miami Dolphins :sidelol:

Thank god you're not the general manager...

This is incredible. Are you a fan or what. First of all, why would you EVER let someone of ZT's caliber go to a division rival. Do you even think ZT would have the heart to go to them??? No way...It all makes sense now, ladies and gentleman we have a RAT-TRIOTS fan here..And what cap space...All the guy does every season is make plays and restructure his contract to save on cap space...

Don't give up on next year too soon. Our defense was one of the best in the NFL last year. If we have a good draft and spend our money wisely, our defense can be better next year. We are going to lose Holiday to free agency
and Traylor is old and has bad knee. But with the Wright boys returning and Vickerson for depth and the advent of Fred Evans, our line looks strong. Trading our captain would be disastrous. Zach is one of the smartest football players ever! He takes great care of himself. He may continue to lead the NFL in tackles another three years. Lance Briggs would be nice replacement for Spragan. Were wasting tons of money on offensive players would aren't getting it done. We may have to make some hard trades and tough cuts but having a defense at the top of the NFL is worth it. New HC, NEW OC,new coaches at QB,RB,Receiver, new offensive schemes, style, and players. It's our offense that sucks. It's our offense that needs revamping. It's our offense where the money is being wasted. OUR DEFENSE GETS IT DONE. Don't sell out our defense.

I personally think their all good IMO. Its why i dont totally see us going for Jarrett, and especially not Ginn. Of course everybody hates CC right now, but hes a good receiver. He just had a terrible year. I have faith he'll turn it around though. Him and Daunte have some serious doubters to disprove now.

No way, we need wr and te help. big time. You look at other teams and they are stacked at wr. Chambers is average, same with booker, same with welker. Booker did average this year, chambers did well below average which made booker look better, and welker was still average, even though he plays his heart out. we need a Jarrett or Ted Ginn Jr.

Exactly. What better way to rebuild than do this. We'll probably end up with a top 3 pick next year and at least we'll know what we are dealing with personnel wise. You cant build on a foundation of garbage. I dont want to try to be good "next year" and keep chugging along, scrapping up these 6-10 seasons. This team has huge personnel problems and as nasty as it sounds, this is the only way to do it. And I dont want to hear anyones homer crap about how Wes Welker is this teams savior. Wes Welker deserves a spot on this team, but anyone who says he's the answer as our #3 is downright dilusional.

Noone said he is the savior, but he is by far garbage. He is however, one of the best playmakers we have. All he did was catch thrid downs...He's another Wayne Chrebecht...And if I remember correctly, he did pretty well as Jets 3rd...By the way, this post titally contradicts what you said earlier...If we did what you mentioned we would be scrapping up 6-10 seasons and in the hunt for the 3rd overall in the next couple seasons

I got two words for y'all
Jimmy Johnson.
This is the GM we need. He's a master of the draft and this team needs a rebuild. There is nothing wrong with playing rookies and young guys. Sure you'll suck, but you need and inventory before you rebuild.
