Knicks trade Jamal Crawford for Al Harrington, ship Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins to Clippers

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/ba..._al_harri.html

The Knicks completed a wild day of trading on Friday when they sent Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins to the Clippers for Tim Thomas and Cuttino Mobley. The deal comes less than two hours after Donnie Walsh traded Jamal Crawford to the Warriors for Al Harrington.

Both deals were made to clear salary cap space for the summer of 2010 for when LeBron James becomes a free agent. The contracts of Harrington, Thomas and Mobley all expire in two years which will put the Knicks in position to make a run at James, the most coveted free agent since Shaquille O'Neal left the Orlando Magic to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Harrington and Mobley are both good players. I have to give Walsh props on these trades. Not only do they trade 2 solid player for 2 solid players, but they clear up alot of cap room as well. I wasn't too intrigued by the Harrington deal, but now that they have Mobley, looks like some good trading.

Now if only Philly can ship Iguodala away for a good SG who can hit open jumpers as well as drive to the hoop :err:

Knicks are thinking about 2010...Be funny,or no it wouldn't be for them if LeBron re-ups with the Cavs.

i understand trading Randolph a little more because Randolph put together good numbers, but hes not as good as his numbers present. and him making like 17 million is ridiculous. but still, all you could get was Mobley and Thomas? thats crazy to me. i realize Knicks want Lebron, ok we get that. but you dont GIVE away players just for cap relief.

the knicks are showing why they are a joke of a franchise. they are giving away players to make a run at a potential free agent 2 years from now. they are show complete lack of respect for players by sitting stephan marbury and eddie curry. you have to release those guys and give them a chance to play else where. completely classless

You're right. Making trades in hope of getting a free agent 2 years from now is a stupid idea. And the whole Marbury situation is stupid. Trade him or cut him if you really feel this bad about the guy.

As for the actual trades, I like it. Mobley and Harrington are both very good players.

Mobley was a good player in Houston. It was a salary dump....nothing more. It should have been done years ago and the journey to cap freedom is going to be a painful one. NY is going to field one of the worst teams in the league this year. This one should rival last year's Heat team for ineptitude.
