I was just watching highlights of the 2005 season...and while our offense had alot of BIG plays in the passing game...every single one of those plays could have been EVEN BIGGER. For the ones ending with a TD, they could have burned the DEF even MORE!! Theres only a few exceptions (Ex: Booker TD against Broncos) where the WR truly sprinted the whole way and never had to adjust to where the ball was coming in. Nearly all of Chambers BIG plays he had to either slow down, adjust his body, jump, etc...the huge pass into redzone territory in the end of the Bills game could have been a TD easy!!!!! Watch the play...if only the ball was leading him in stride and higher up for him to snatch it outta the sky...instead Chambers has to slow down a bit, adjust his body so he can catch the ball at his waist...and because of that he trips himself up!!! This is one play where it could have been a TD...there were MANY other plays that could have been much more with in stride passes. Our potential is so great if we can hit those guys in-stride...and I think we have finally found our QB who can do that. I watched Culpepper highlights and he sure as hell does make it alot easier on his WR's! We are going to have a very good passing game next yr everybody!!!

hitting recievers in stride determines a great qb from an average one. good post. even marino lost that ability in his later years. this team hasnt had a qb who can hit qbs in stride in almost 10 years

i agree but you are wrong iwth teh booker one. if you watch closely he does SLOW down a STEP to cattch the ball b/c it was slighly under thrown. i have been complaining about this for a long time and i am glad you noticed it too! way to go my man!

and i'm sure if you watched replays of long passes for almost any other team you'll notice that the wr has to make some kind of adjustment. and if you point to peyton manning and say his receivers don't have to make any adjustments on long receptions, 2 things:

1. he's the best qb in the league, there can't be 32 guys like him.
2. he's been throwing to the same receivers for 5 years now - of course those guys are going to be more comfortable with each other.

what hurt our passing game most last year were the balls our guys didn't even catch - gus was only completing 52% of his passes.

Ok, a few missed catches is not going to make a qb's comp percentage be 52%, I think that just points out Gus's inaccuracy. Plaxico Burress dropped passes from Eli, but Eli also threw many errant passes, and just inaccurate passes, therefore, he had under 60% percentage also.I think Eli will imporve though, become a pretty good qb, he's a young qb, whereas, Gus is old, and is what he is.

Haha, true...but I think it was probably the closest pass we had to being "in-stride" all season!

I'm just glad that Saban is smarter than many gave him credit for when they suggested that we draft a young guy and let Frerotte start till he is ready. That could have took awhile unless we landed Leinhart. Culpepper will make our receivers that more dangerous and will hit them in stride more than Frerotte did.

coach saban said....when i was in high school i played QB and my dad was a coach and QB (i believe) himself and he told me when a reciever doens't catch the ball it is NOT his fault but rather YOUR fault for not putting it in the RIGHT place. if you watch the games we have had so many 3rd downs not compelted or missed opportunities b/c we missed so many open people and in the endzone as well. if you were to put those EXTRA 1st downs we coudl have had in a game that woudl have changed the entire outcome and would have taken us a long way. we were a pretty decent offense due to a 52%'er and iwth a 64 in DC it can be a damn GOOD OFFense if you thnk about it, McMike, CC, RB are all young and haven't hit their 5-6th year and are about a year from bein in their prime and we have a QB that is in his prime. we could be that team ala Colts taht luckily everything falls in place and everyone hits their primse on offense at the right time and it seems that way with us. put a good jackson possibly at WR and next year we \can have a great tandum with very young players. our QB is only 2-3 years ahead of our guys but its ok i hope.

Actually you know what, Booker did slow down quite a bit in the Denver game. I had to watch it again. The best example of an in-stride pass is the TD to Mcmichael in the Panthers game...I just couldnt remember which game he caught that pass in. Its beautiful, LOT more of those in the near future!!!

yea and the game vs SD. CC caught many in stride.

if i see a qb that doesnt throw in front of the receiver he sucks
stride is wat makes a great qb i just cant think of myself being called decent even with 30 td 10 int if all my passes were bad and my receiver made me look like a good qb

Read any of the Gus threads from during the season last year and you'd have seen quite a few of us complaining of the very thing you are discussing here.

I complained vehemently about Gus' inaccuracy. Not when he completely missed guys, that happens to all QBs, but it seemed like nearly every pass that was completed, the recievers had to contort their bodies, stop and wait on the ball to get there, twist in the wind or whatever just to make the reception...(I'm counting to ten to calm down now)...Yea, the biggest problem in our offense last year was poor QBing. With DC, we have a better opportunity to hit those guys in stride and more accurately and give them opportunities for YAC, which is what this offense is predicated on.
