In the news: Mike Pouncey and Aaron Hernandez

Pouncey is scum. The sooner he leaves this team the better. Never seen a center so inept in protection calls.

"Show me who your friends are, and I'll tell you what you are".

While I think Hernandez is a POS scum, I can't fault Pouncey for not leaving a friend. Just my take.

Friendship has limits... If my best friend ended up being a serial killer not sure I'd keep that relationship around.

I'll say one thing about both Mike and his brother . . . they really have done a good job of turning the corner with their lives. No question they were hanging with the wrong group of associates, from college through a good portion of their NFL careers.

Not even that they are criminals . . . they have never been in serious trouble, just around it.

But they made a pact in 2015 to change, grow up and mature and I give them much credit for doing a great job. They host the Pouncey camp up in Lakeland and Mike was nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award last season for the many contributions he makes off the field.

I know many like to judge people by their past and for some a certain image of a guy won't change, but hopefully Mike and his brother continue on this new found right track that they are on.

You do realize he is the clear leader of the O-line locker room? Provided that he's fully healthy, he's not going anywhere. It's also been reported many times that Gase loves him. When Gase was asked which player surprised him the most, his answer was Pouncey, and his excellent leadership and professionalism. However, these articles highlight a problem that Pouncey hasn't been pragmatic and cut off all contact with Hernandez. While that doesn't make him a bad player, I expect better, loyalty to old college buddies gets pretty thin when he's a convicted murderer.
BTW for the small number of games that Pouncey played in 2016, they included the back to back games when the O-line dominated and Jay Ajayi got over 200 yards.
Your comment re Pouncey and protection calls is the absolute complete opposite of what I have heard. It has been reported multiple times that one of Mike Pouncey's strengths are his skills in reading the Defense and making the protection calls (and when we lost him for the season, this was a pretty big hit to the functioning of the O-line).

I mean these reported phone calls were from 2 years ago. For all we know, Mike could of cut off communication and maybe just loads commissary account up for Aaron.

It can't be understated that these 2 are literally like brothers and especially when Aaron first got convicted, Mike and Maurkice were fully behind him. You really haven't heard much in regards to their relationship since the Pouncey brothers really wanted to change the way they are viewed.

Now that being said, I fully expect that Mike still has a relationship with Aaron and that is his right and I would expect Mike to support his friend/brother which doesn't mean he condones what he did.

Kudos to both of you for stating character improvement in the past few years. Well said and good posts.

I've never had a problem with his run blocking, that's also a reason behind the strong push for the run game after the Titans game last season. Though you'll never convince me that his ability to properly and consistently ID defensive fronts in pass pro is a strength. I've seen way too many errors year in and year out on tape for that to be true.

And health is a huge concern. Here's an obvious comment: any talent is useless if it's not on the field. And on the o-line, a player's absence is more detrimental to that unit than any other.

While I see where you are coming from, if someone is truly your friend you still try to support where you can even if what they did makes you sick to your stomach. Just MHO. Because of my faith (and no I don't want to get in to that) the Bible is filled with thieves and murderers that God ended up using to do great things. It is easy to a be a friend when everything is good, not so much when strongly tested. I couldn't blame a friend who stopped being one either. However, like I said I can't blame Pouncey for not just abandoning him.

The extent of Mike's character development will be revealed when the prosecution puts him on the stand to discuss those two calls.

He makes too much $ to have glass hips. Love me some gators but we need a better return on investment. 1 more season sounds about right. Can't create a 3 man hole in the middle of the line with this group of nitwits.

These phone calls don't seem new unless I'm missing something. It sounds like calls from years ago. Did I just read it wrong?

Yeah I'd prefer our starting center not associate with a serial murderer in any way, shape, or form.
