What exactly were Frerotte's incentives that he reached last year. I have heard it was basically 85% of the snaps triggered the big bonus. i think the phins as an organization should look at better incetives to reach like a certain number of touchdown passes or passing yards reached. Maybe I am naive about the system because it has to be based on playing time but I do recall many incentives based on reaching certain milestones. I am sure we never imagined him getting to those incentives when we signed him but performance based incentives would seem more motivating and logical.

i agree 100 percent...starting games shouldnt equal incentives...gus did not earn anything this year if you ask me...to tell you the truth, I will go out on a limb and say fiedler would have done just as good. let fiedler hand off to ricky and ronnie and see how well he does. no way gus should have reached those incentives. but then again, we are still getting and going after the Free Agents we want right now so I am sure Saban and Mueller have a plan. Saban probably has three backup plans, he is always planning.

i agree for the most part on the incentive clauses........Fiedler could never had made as many long throws as Frerotte did (I believe we actually led the league, believe it or not, in the number of 20+ or 40+ yard plays, I remember the announcers saying it during the last game). Frerotte did outplay Fiedler....although not by much.

I'm not sure what all the incentives are, but most are tied to team wins. We were expected to go 9-7 last year so several players had those NLTE incentives kick in...thats why we had a surplus deducted from our cap of nearly $9 mil...that was for everyone...'

If Saban put in a clause as you suggested for Gus (85% of snaps), that would reinforce my opinion, that when Gus was signed last year, they felt that AJ would wrest the job from him...There's no way they signed Gus with the expectations that he'd make $4m for last year...he isn't/wasn't that good of a QB, starter or backup...

All teams put Easy to reach incentives into a contract. it is sort of a salary cap loophole teams use to help sign the players they want.
