It seems like there's a growing trend in the NFL that's really starting to find its foundation now. Recently it seems like there's been a significant increase in players with multiple skill positions who have the potential to line up at QB, RB, WR, and TE and run a play any sort of way with the explicit desire to confuse the defense (and DC). the Eagles/Jets preseason game showcased this through Brad Smith and the Fins/Rams game showed off Marcus Vick's abilities. Throw in there Vince Young's super speed (if only he could catch the ball too...) and vets like CPep, McNabb, and Randle El and the game overall seems to be transitioning to a much faster and more complex mutation.

Do you guys see this happening also? Will this make having a smart insanely good LB constantly spying an imperative on defense? Would it be better to have a MLB or OLB spying when facing off against a versatile skill player like a lot of these guys?

Nah I just give the mike LB a sawed off shot gun and let roar off a shot at whoever gets the ball. That ought to slowem down a bit! :D

The whole game is changing. It's always changing and always will. Human's are developing differently too so that dynamic of the game is always changing. It's part of what makes the game so fun to watch -- guys are getting bigger, stronger, faster.
