as per espn this morning, it was reported that ROGER GOODDELL
has met with the ncaa big wigs and has informed several big time
college coaches like urban meyer, pete carroll, nick satan, etc...
that the pending ROOKIE SALARY CAP for the nfl will not be in
effect untill probably 2011.
the intent was to get the word out that the players still have
plenty of time [as of now] to get in on the nfl big money and
hopefully keep an onslaught of juniors declaring this year and
next.
the ncca has been very worried that they would be gutted of
talent due to the rookie cap soon to be in place in the nfl.
so, does it effect this years draft in a big way? will many of the
hopeful jr's we all want to declare actually do it now or will the
majority hang in school another year or two? more than usual?
many thought the cap was going to be fast tracked during this
years big wig meatings and goodell was trying to head off the
stampede to ease the ncaa brass minds.
i think its a so-so senior class and the juniors have been making the
draft richer for some time now so i personaly hope that this isnt
going to have the effect of a huge number of juniors who would have
most likely declared, now wont.
i am all for the rookie cap, but, it WILL have an effect on the nfl for
sure. good? bad? time will tell.
