Channing crowder... solid LB who will play well, make tackles, and contain deliciously.

now my question is, who plays next to him??? Akin i surely hope not, cause i dislike his game. slow to react, struggles getting off blocks, doesn't fill or get into the backfield well. we didnt get an instinctive player in the draft or Fa to fill this void.

should we all keep an eye on this big Weber state kid... JD Folsom??? i heard some interesting stuff on our last pick of the draft and wonder if he would work out in this aspect.

your thoughts???

I actually don't mind Akin... in fact, i was pleasantly surprised by him last year. He is out best coverage LB. I'd expect us to be watching the waiver wire though because we definitely could use a few ILB upgrades.

Ayodele and Crowder will start. They are solid and do their job. They are not counted on to be playmakers.

totally agree with this.

Akin though, just gets lost out there and doesnt fill or get to the ball with quick reaction. i still think an instinctive guy that can get into the backfield is needed next to Crowder. Akin jsut gets lost way too often and out of position.

i still sad Jason Phillips went to Baltimore when we had chances fo him all over the place :(

I just played Madden on Xbox live and Akin had 5 picks for me, 3 Passes Swatted, 2 sacks and 13 tackles.

Not lying at all, he's amazing in Madden for some reason.

LOL... thats hilarious... hopefully this is Madden 2009 and Akin will produce like that this season!!!

Well, Yeremiah Bell is amazing in it too haha. But he can never get picks, he drops everything. I had 26 tackles with him in one game, but he dropped like 4 picks.

You can pretty much put some good athletes in the linebacker position. Matter of fact, we have a pretty good linebacking corps with some emerging stars. We still have a weakness at nose tackle however.

as I have stated countless times here:

the current regime LOVES Ayodeles knowledge of the D, leadership, coverage and playmaking. So...he and Channing are our starters barring injury....period.

ILB is a position I really worry about going into the season if things stay the way they are. Depth is a huge issue as Torbor is just not good enough to anchor that position. I'd be content to keep Crowder and Ayodele as starters, but we really need more competition in case of injuries and rotation.

Unless Folsom bulks up, I can not see him being decent depth at the position.

Like to see them rotate Roth in the middle on first down and shot yardage plays. Assuming Wake takes over on the strong side. Roth is a great run stopper and if we can make him a succesful LB, then we can move him to the middle.

chewski... interesting with Roth there. its a posability, cause i can see him slowly fading away from what his place or value it with the team defensively.

JD has the frame to bulk up, and he is a big boy as is with speed and quickness.... i wonder how instinctive he really is, and how well he can get off of blocks and into the backfield.... i want to see game film on him or soemthing.

Replace Akin? ILB's in a 3-4 require alot of coverage. He is the only LB on our roster who can cover decently.
