Instead of helping Davone Bess, the Dolphins failed him - Has bearing on Farmer

"Davone Bess needed help."

The Dolphins traded him to Cleveland.

That's astounding negligence, and while the Dolphins have since parted ways with the snake who was running their football operations, don't be fooled. This place isn't cleaned up simply because the Dolphins are free of general manager Jeff Ireland, the same guy who asked Dez Bryant before the 2010 draft if his mother was a prostitute; the same guy whose response to the news that 300-pound Richie Incognito was bullying 300-pound Jonathan Martin was to tell one starting offensive lineman to punch the other one. Ireland, presumably, is the one who traded Bess to the Browns without making sure the Browns knew Davone Bess was going to need help in his new city.

But don't be lazy and assume Ireland is the only one in the Dolphins organization who knew about Bess' March hospitalization. Bess caught 321 passes from 2008-12, and was the Dolphins' punt returner in that time. He wasn't just an asset, but a valuable part of the team. So when he was committed in March, don't think for a second that coach Joe Philbin and owner Stephen Ross didn't know. Of course they knew. Ireland didn't just trade the team's leading receiver since 2008 without telling them why.

Maybe Farmer remembered the Fins and how they did the Browns wrong. I wonder if this had anything to do with Farmer not hearing what he wanted and turned them down.

Can't really argue the points made. Forget "football moves", etc. Just a lousy way to treat a human being.

Doesn't every NFL team have some type of "player wellness" position? Someone who helps the players with off field stuff. Usually is a former player. Do the Dolphins have one and who is it?

In fairness, Bess isn't very good. If he were a huge value to the team, they would have been more inclined to help.

Not that it makes me think any different of Ireland.

Sorry, just an inflammatory article, nothing more. Why is the employer always judged in these situations but the individual and family are not? Cleveland should have done their due diligence. Doesn't say much for Farmer now does it?

Whatever I'm the first to crush Ireland but frankly we don't know the real story and if Bess was hiding behind Hippaa law. Or Bess could have been flat out refusing therapy and judging by his recent behavior is most likely the case. The world is full of people with mental issues that refuse help and if Bess was one of them then the team did the right thing walking away.

Bess is a grown man and a rich one to boot, I have some sympathy for him but The NFLPA should have been there to help as well as his family.

"On March 11, 2013, Bess's family had him hospitalized against his will, after noting that he had been acting bizarrely and hadn't slept for three days."

Can you say Cocaine or Crack...His behavior is like a paranoid coke head...Bess made it out of Oakland, out of the youth center, through hawaii with an amazing career, then made the big show and the money was all there and may have done the wrong thing and got hooked, i have friends who were coke heads back in the day and his behavior is what they would do after a three day binge.

Anyway, all you can do is pray for him if you believe in that kind of stuff and hope that he can get his life back in order, the only person who caused his demise was himself.

"The photo posted by Bess earlier this week included what looked like marijuana along with a drink, cigar, energy drink and the documentary Cocaine Cowboys on a television. The Browns are investigating the image and likely will investigate his arrest."

"Cocaine is a hell of drug!"- Rick James

Do you think we trade Can Wake is he has problems like that? No! Were talking about a mediocre slot WR. Brandon Gibson isn't even that great and looked a hell of a lot better than him.

To be fair, Bess was likely on his way out anyways. Although he is solid, he is not a playmaker and we desperately needed an upgrade over him, of which Brandon Gibson is. If he wasnt traded, we would have released him regardless. People, better yet, MILLIONAIRES, who instead of making the best out of a situation, settle for doing the worse need to be responsible for themselves and their actions. He seemed to be fine in Miami, quiet, professional, great attitude... And now?

Article is a hatchet job.

It's not the Dolphins fault that Bess is bat-**** crazy.

:bobdole: Author with an agenda.

I agree with he was probably done with the Dolphins anyway. While he could make a great 3rd down catch, he sucked at YAC.... and his returning skills were just God awful.

I don't blame the Fins, I just pray that if I was in their position I would put the man ahead of the game.......

In fairness, Bess isn't very good. If he were a huge value to the team, they would have been more inclined to help.

Not that it makes me think any different of Ireland.

That's just wrong. A few years ago, Bess was considered one of the best slots in the league and you know it. There were some on here that even argued he was better than Welker (they were of course wrong...but the sentiment was there...) It has only been the last few years that he REALLY fell off. I may be because of the issues he is having.
