Interest in Smith `serious'

Meyer visited longtime friend Scott Linehan, the Dolphins' offensive coordinator, on Thursday. He had talked to the Dolphins about Alex Smith, his quarterback at Utah, a lot in recent weeks.

"The Dolphins' interest was very serious," Meyer said. "They asked a lot of questions. I can't say that they would have chosen him, but they were very serious.

"I was praying that he came down here so I could see him. Also, Scott and I have been friends a long time. I have great respect for Nick Saban, and I know Rick Spielman."

I think Saban would have drafted Alex Smith instead of Ronnie Brown if he had been available. What do you think.

i think like saban said... it was always brown
Would Saban really say, "Yeah, the guy we wanted was taken #1 overall, so we're picking second best?" I'd take anything a guy says who put up the Braylon Edwards smokescreen with a grain of salt.

My gut tells me we would have taken Smith if he was available.

no he wouldnt have said that... but he wouldn't have said ronnie was the one from the jump, he could have said we looked at a lot of players and are happy to have ronnie brown or a politically correct statement as such...

you can think saban was lieing about that and go with your "gut", my gut and saban himself said he would have taken ronnie regardless... i'll go with that

I truley believe Smith would have been the choice if he were there. ESPN even said Miami called them about a trade up to the #1. I don't know how real that was, but I would bet it would have been Smith. It doesn't matter now though because Smith is a 9er and Brown is a Dolphin.

I remember Saban saying something like that, but I don't remember the exact context.

I think Saban was covering all of his bases. He probably asked all the same questions of Browns and Edwards previous coaches as well.

I dont know why the Dolphins would have wanted anything to do with Smith when you spent a second rounder on AJ. Give AJ another year to show what he has before you start thinking of letting him go.

I'd trade you Losman for Feeley straight up! ;)

I don't know if I would want that trade. :shakeno:

Even though Loseman could be a very good pro, he could just as easily not be, with Feeley we have already seen what we have, and with an O-line, and a better running game, he has a very good shot at being good......we know he is tough.

Alex Smith needs to lose those Luke Perryesque sideburns before I take him seriously.

Excuse me for using stereotypes, but a Bills fan not bashing AJ Feeley straight out. Wow. So rare.
