Well while flipping though the channels today I stopped on ESPNNEWS. Charlie Weis was having his press conference about the Notre Dame vs. LSU game. Now the interesting part he said was that the LSU QB Russell reminded him of a player in the NFL, none other than the Miami dolphins QB Daunte Culpepper. Anybody know if Russell was recuited while Saban was still the head coach. If so that could be the underlying reason that we took Culpepper over Brees. That might just be the kind of QB that Saban likes, if so he got just what he was looking for.

Sorry if this thread is somewhat pointless, but I'm sick of reading about Lemon and how bad this team is. So here is something different.

1. Yes Saban recruited Russell right out from under Bobby Bowden's nose.

2. No, that's not why he took Culpepper. Word is he was really impressed with Brees and favored him because of the lack of necessary draft pick, but the Dolphins' medical staff just would not sign off on it...because Brees had a 360 degree labrum tear, capsule damage, partially torn rotator cuff, and like a hundred pins all through his shoulder.

So much for Doctors...eh C.K.?

Dr. Andrews....gave Brees the O.K. of his health .....I wonder why Saban didn't listen?

Yes, I still believe C-pep is the better choice over Brees, despite Brees' success so far.

Brees' injury has a history (with other QBs) of recurrance. There's a good chance it may get injured again, if not this year, maybe 2007, or 2008.
Once C-pep's knee is fully rehabbed, he should be fine for years to come.
C-pep's contract was better than Brees' demands (remember, our salary cap is NOT in good shape).
C-pep's career stats were better than Brees' career stats (really only 2 good years).

Thus, LONG-TERM, I believe C-pep is still the safer and better bet than Brees.

Conflict of interest? Dr. Andrews is the one who did the surgery, so while you listen to him you don't put 100% in him. Kinda like a mother trying to set her daughter up lol.

Because:
1. Andrews is Brees' own, personal doctor, who MAY be biased a little.
2. We have our own INDEPENDENT team doctors to give their unbiased opinion. That's what they're there for... Are they perfect? No. Is ANY doctor perfect? No. Not our team doctors, not Dr. Andrews... But at least ours are independent.
3. Look at other QBs who've had this injury......there's a history of recurrance. That's the BIGGEST reason right there!

Andrews is an independent specialist who doesn't have to answer to Wayne Huizenga. If he recommends that Brees' shoulder is OK and then it blows up, so be it.

If the Miami Dr signs off that it's OK and then it blows up, the Miami Dr loses his job.

Yeah...why let reality get in the way of a good opinion?

The same Dr. Andrews who repaired Daunte Culpepper's knee only to find lingering cartilege in there when he went back in there? The guy's a great surgeon, but even he is fallible.

Are you serious???????????????? :sidelol:

I hope he is, because his counterpoint is something you need to hear sorely. 4 games with an injured Culpepper and you're ready to close the book? Doesn't even get a chance when he comes back, trade the bum and walk away? ARE YOU SERIOUS????????????????:sidelol:
