NEW TRADE CHART AN EFFORT BY EAGLES TO MOVE UP?

Posted by Mike Florio on April 18, 2008, 9:34 p.m.
In response to the emergence of a new proposed trade chart, a league source tells us that, in his opinion and based on discussions with most of the other NFL teams, the proposal is the direct result of the Philadelphia Eagles to make it easier to trade up from the No. 19 overall spot in the 2008 draft.
“The whole thing sounds like an elaborate ruse,†the source said.
It’s not clear who the Eagles would be targeting via a move, or how high they’d like to go. If the Eagles are indeed behind the creation of the new chart, the fact that the first four picks dropped in value and the rest of the first-rounders increased suggests that they’d like to get into the top four — and possibly all the way to No. 1.
Moreover, if the Eagles are trying to pull off a move up, there’s only one other team that needs to agree with the chart, and that’s the team with whom the Eagles would be trading.
Besides, the reality is that, if a team that wants to trade down can’t find a partner under the existing trade chart, then maybe a new chart really is needed.
Or why shouldn’t both teams say “the hell with the chart,†if they so choose? The pick is worth whatever the team who’ll trade it thinks it worth. Does anyone really think that the Tuna gives a flying fish about whether he’ll be criticized from taking less than what the Jimmy Johnson trade chart dictates he should receive?
Regardless, the suspicion that is being directed at the Eagles confirms our belief that any meaningful change to the trade chart can come only after the draft and before the start of the regular season, since during that period of time no team can be accused of trying to stack the deck in support of its own short-term interests.

Interesting because arguably biggest need for Eagles are offensive tackle (Jake Long) , or LB (Chris Long, Vernon Gholston)..and yes Wide Reciever, but the WR class isnt too exciting (IMO) and they could get good talent in the 2nd round

I think Lito, and a 3rd or 4th for our 1st... theyd be moving up 19 spots, more compensation would be required IMO

Don'y do that trade! Trade down to 5 to 10 range and no futher.

lito for an 18 spot increase in the draft for the eagles???? are you kidding me? wtf this is getting out of control. everyone seems to be saying they dont want to take a big salary hit but its not ur money! we need special players on our team and we have the number one pick!!!! wtf i dont get people they make it seem like its a burden. we are going to get one of the best players in the draft period. it doesnt matter how much we spend on them cuz we are 1-15 and if we dont do something about that, we wont have people buying tickets to see this sorry team! i seriously could give a **** what we do with this pick. even though we have an elite group in our organization, we still have no ****ing clue who to take. so much that we have to negotiate with more than two players. people say trust tuna or tuna will bring turn us in the right direction and we still cant make up our minds on who we are going to draft? dont trade the pick, stick to the player in ur heart, and live by ur decision. stop *****footing around and pick a person that will be here and play here.

You guys are crazy. Lito Sheppard is not that great. They went after Samuel and are trading Lito for a reason and everyone knows they are trading him hence they have no leverage whatsoever. The Raiders probably overpaid for DeAngelo hall with a second rounder and you guys are fine with dropping 18 spots in the first round for a guy who is not as good, older and whose team has NO leverage? Are you nuts.

The Eagles would need to throw Lito, the 19th their 2nd rounder and another pick before i would even think about that trade.

Not gunna happen. who will be there at 19? no stud. we wont drop down, but if we do we should stay in the top 10

thats not enough.. Their 1st, 2nd, next years 1st and possibly a player. Wed be dropoping 18 spots. Thats a big step back for a team who is greatly lacking in the talent department

Moving down to #19 would still allow us to pick one of the projected first round Tackles, think Jeff Otah or Gosder Cherilus. So Lito Sheppard, #19, and then their 3rd Round - #80. If you put a 2nd round grade on Lito Sheppard (which I think is high based on his injury history) Based on the "old" value chart the Eagles would still have to throw in a ton more. Maybe something next year, their 2nd rounder. Further, Sheppard wants a new contract, so that would have to be part of it. It would still be off on the old value chart, but imho the fins would have to at least seriosly think about it

 Absolutely!! or a 2nd next year but your right that's has to be a major trade.

Why would the Eagles move to our #1 slot?

Are they 1 player and $60 million from winning the Superbowl?
