Evans, 26, who is expected to compete for Rob Konrad's vacated starting spot, said that Brown was always facing an uphill battle in his efforts to displace Carnell "Cadillac'' Williams as Auburn's starting tailback.
"Cadillac was the prize recruit and no one expected Ronnie to turn out to be as good, so it wasn't really a fair competition," said Evans, a former standout at West Palm Beach King's Academy. "The year Ronnie started [when Williams was injured in 2002], he put up some impressive numbers and you could see he was something special."
