Dolphins coaches are not convinced Allen has what it takes to make it in Miami despite his prototype size and good athletic ability.
I have been told that although the Dolphins continue to hold out hope that the lightbulb will come on for Allen, and although he is a very good special teams player, there is one major frustration about his play: In times of crisis, when it is nitty-gritty time, he seems to abandon all that he has been taught. He reverts to old instincts and ways, and doesn't stick with the technique he's been taught. That basically means the Dolphins are starting to worry he's not coachable.

Not surprising... we've known he is as dumb as bricks since the day Saban (aka Belichicks secret weapon) signed him.

Have they been in camp or is this just armando with the same old theories?

There is no if's and's or but's about it . . . this will be the year where we find out if Allen has the tools, if not, he won't make the roster. Until then, Armando needs to stop reaching for a story in his blogs. Let him develop at CB.

Wouldn't they of realized that Jason Allen was not that bright during the interview process?? Before the draft? Don't understand how they missed on it.

normally i would believe this but considering the source i choose to reserve judgment until a later date

nothing new in this thread. he will make his bones or bust.
personally, I think this is his break through year.
however, if he comes up short, he's out of here.

Allen is actually pretty smart, so it wouldnt of been able to get picked up during an interview, hes just not football smart and cant adapt on the fly

Allen continues to use bad technique at times....how much coaching can a guy get?

Jason Allen has the tools to play this game. Just a matter of time when he decides to play the mental game. I think if he bulks up he would be a good strong safety. I don't think that his game fits best for a corner in my opinion. His hip movement is not the same type that you would want from an elite corner.

Yes, the dude isn't stupid. I've talked to him before--it's just a shame that he never put it together on the field.

the dude is in his 3rd different system, with his his 3rd different coaching staff, in his 4th year, all being switched back and forth between safety and corner, lets him stay at corner and see what he can do when hes finally in the same system for consecutive years.

I think all this talk of 'smarts' may be a little misleading... Everyone used to mention how he was having a difficult time grasping the system when IMO it has more to do with 'instincts'... Playing in the defensive backfield requires instincts at any level and it is something that cannot be coached in. Either you have them or you don't... I think at this point it is obvious that JA does not... and excelled in college with superior atheltic ability...

i think everyone agrees that Jason has the physical tools to play at this level. The question has always been the mental part - whether we refer to it as football intellect or instinct doesn't necessarily matter. it makes you believe that that was the reason they tried to move him to S already.

my guess with JA is that he might not make it out of camp this year.
