I need to do this to try to make sense of what I am feeling about this team. The problem with being a Dolphins fan right now is that they are so close, but just not good enough. They compete with every team they face. They seem to play well and look like a playoff team for certain parts of the game. But, because they just are not good enough, they end up losing. That is what makes losses so hard. There is a difference between being a team like San Francisco or Houston and being us. We are better than probably at least 10 teams, maybe more. Plus, we can play with anyone. But for some reason, or maybe a bunch of different reasons, we don't win the big game. It makes games tough. It is easy to watch your team lose when you know that they are know good. But in most games for the Dolphins, they play like a playoff team, until they find a way to lose in the end. I honestly believe they are one of the best 3-6 teams you will ever see, but they are just not good enough, yet. If I was told before the season that the Dolphins would start 3-6, I would think that makes sense. However, I would never believed they would of played like that to get to this point. Even though I expected this, the losses still really hurt because of how they are losing. For the first time in a while, I feel like this team has great character. They are just not good enough in the talent department to put it all together. Aside from the Bucs game, you can't say that they didn't fight in every game they have played this year. While they are not winning as much as I would like, they are finally back to playing football that I can respect.

I do admit that they never give up and play to the end which is good. They seem to need 1 or 2 big time playmakers to get over this hump that they have. When they get them the losses will turn to wins. Until then, the frustration does hurt.

I echo your feelings. I really feel that this is a solid, competetive team. Add an impact player at QB, get some solid o-linemen and shore up the hole on defense, particuarly at CB and we should be alright. Honestly I think the ability for the pats to pick up all those 3rd downs on Howard was a huge factor in this game. No overhaul needed, keep this team competative and attractive to FA's and well make a nice run next year.

The mental part, "of getting use to losing" is a major hurddle as well. To actually feel like a championship team. Not just know you can be. The way I have seen us play the Jets (bad) year in year out since 2001 say. I think many of the players including "Zach" thought they would lose. I say that same fear in our back field today.

That along with a receiver that can dominant other players even when they know what is coming and a good QB.

Ronnie's fumble vs Buffalo

The INT vs Atlanta

Chamber's drop in the endzone today

We are three plays away from having a much much better record.

This team is a QB, LT, and a few role players away from being great. Give Saban another offseason to get a few role players, get Poole back, send Howard to Siberia, and get a quality LT and QB and we are STUDS.

I was just about to mention the same thing about this is like the 3rd game we have been inside the opponents 20 going for a tie/win and couldnt get it done

Good post.

side note: Do you live right in Philly or on the outskirts?

I was talking about plays in the last minutes of the game.

McMichael wasn't in the endzone and we lost by more than 3 so neither of those plays were directly game winning plays.

I didn't try to cast blame on Chambers, I thought he had a bad game today but is a quality WR, just saying that those last 4 plays were all opportunities to win today and that was the best of the four.

I thought the Atlanta game was a great game for us. We lost and should've played much much better...

...BUT we played smashmouth football. We were punishing everyone that game. If our DL plays that well and we let the defense and Ronnie run people over - we are going to be an intimidating team next year.

Thinking we could score and scoring are more than 2-3 good plays away. We are 2-3 good drives away if you follow. I'm with you tho.

I live in the outskirts. But Philly is the only place anyone would recognize in southeast Pennsylvania, so I just put that.

Cool, I actually live in Norristown, moved here 2 years ago. Cool to see local Finz fans.
