3. I am just surprised Ross wasn't able to massage the situation to get Fisher on board with Ireland.

2. Only reason this looks dumb is because no one trusts Ireland. I get it. But no reason to think JF's any better than Ireland w/final say.

1. Packers wouldn't give that a coach right now. Giants wouldn't. Steelers wouldn't. Ravens wouldn't. It's not stupid.

A couple of notes about Stephen Ross' decision to not take power from Ireland and give it to Fisher:

Holy ****, is this a respected national writer actually DEFENDING Ross? Color me shocked.

this makes perfect sense. the most important tweet was about the giants/steelers etc. taht is the key. the best franchises and consistent contenders dont do taht crap. miami has been doing it for years now, and im glad ross has finally blown the whistle on it.

thank god.

i am honestly surprised miami fans still want to do that. maybe it was teh fans all along that pushed owners in the wrong direction.

I agree.

I love the idea of Fisher the coach, but I HATED the idea of Fisher the GM.

Coaches sharing the GM job usually don't work out. Also, it's not like the Titans were year in, year out contenders. Let Fisher concentrate on coaching the team and not worrying about who to pick up for the bottom of the roster. If he didn't agree to that than I'm glad we said no.

Time to get a coach in here that will concentrate fully on getting the most out of this roster. We have talent on this team. We just need a coach that will get the most out of it.

I've been saying the same thing for weeks. Show me any evidence why fisher should be able to have final say or at least veto what the gm wants to do.

a lot of people on here are star gazers that believe because these guys won titles they know how to run an entire team. All the coaches (minus Gruden who took over Dungy's roster) had input on the rosters, but they had GMs who kept things in perspective. Only reason I was willing to give Cowher any control was he wanted to bring Kevin Colbert or Omar Kahn from Pittsburgh (allegedly). Gruden also had somebody in mind to bring with him reportedly, I want to say Tom Heckert.

Remember, Seattle gave Mike Holmgren full control in Seattle, but the Seahawks didn't turn into a good team until he was stripped of his GM duties

Agreed. Could that man be Zimmer?

Replace R with Z...

I'd like to see what a combo of Ireland, Zimmer, Daboll, & Bowles could do.

Yep. Too many people knee jerk and say things without thinking or at least looking at the information. For instance I hear alot of anti billick sentiment and its based on how the offense was in Baltimore. Those same people would love to have gruden but don't even realize that the offense gruden ran in Tampa was worse then billicks in Baltimore.

agreed fellas.

so many fans and some media dopes are saying this is what proves ross is a failure, i think this proves ross is actually a bit hard nosed and smart.

i have to think the league's inner circles thinks the same.

this could also mean that the phins WERE in fact looking at the other candidates and liked them or one of them enough to not go "all in" for fisher. which again, i take back what i said about ross, honestly if fisher was comign in as just the HC, it would have been a GREAT move, but since he wanted to take us down the path once again of a HC/GM hybrid whether final say or "veto power", im glad we got that mess out of the way and are ready to really pick "OUR" guy or should i say ireland and ross's guy. Let them find a person they really click with and go from there, not just chase the biggest name out.

Fisher isn't going to have full control of the Rams. He just wanted to make sure he and GM are allies. Fisher and the new GM will have to include Kroenke in most decisions like the draft and FA's.

It's also being reported that Fisher turned down 8 yr 64 mill from Ross.

Turns out fisher did care about the dolphins he didn't want to rip us off.

I mean 8 million for a guy who has only gone to the post season 6 out of 17 seasons and have a losing post season record? That's just plain stupid.

Wow, That is pretty impressive! A Peter King article that DIDN'T mention Tom Brady or Belichick!!!!!! Now that's a first!

The funny thing is, that when you bring in a 'big name' HC usually he coached under a GM. Then after he establishes some success as a HC, he looks for total control with his next job (Parcells, Holmgren, Jimmy Johnson). I personally don't feel that Fisher has earned that type of power based on his resume'.
I wanted Fisher as the HC, but I'm glad Ross didn't acquiesce to all his demands. Time to move on
