21 out of the last 22 seasons, a team with a record of 5-5 or worse at this point has made the playoffs. Doom and gloomers why watch if you have no hope? We took the colts and saints to the brink, we can beat anyone. A 9 win team made it to the Super Bowl last year. I'm not saying we will, but never count a team out.

If we beat the Bills we could be playing the Patriots, in Miami, in Primetime on Sunday Night Football for first place in the division[if they lose to the jets or saints-which is likely]. Even if we lose to the Pats, could you ask for anything more exciting than that? This is a team that won 1 game not even 2 years ago, and lost Ronnie Brown, Will Allen, etc.

One game at a time...one game at a time.

With that being said...GO J...JETS. Omg I'm going to have to take a shower now.

One game at a time, you guys have a long way to go. Keep playing tough like you have been and you'll have a chance but I wouldn't look to far ahead.

Agreed. Chances are a highly unlikely 2/5% super bowl, 35/40% playoffs-better shot for at least one extra game. I'll be happy with a win over the Bills, then if the pats lose one it will be a primetime game with first place on the line, can't really ask for more. The Pats are still the best team in the division, we would need some luck to win it. The fun thing about the NFL is it rarely plays out like it's supposed to though.

However, 2010/the next decade is looking to be a monster fight for the AFC East between the Dolphins, Patriots and Jets. All 3 could be evenly matched Super Bowl contenders.

Agreed! I hope we beat the bills and when time comes for that Sunday night game I will probably have the the time of my life at the stadium. The MNF jet's game was pretty darn special because of the atmosphere in the stadium but this sunday one against the pats will take the cake.

I believe, but honestly this team is going to have to win AT LEAST 10 games to make the playoffs. Though as we saw last year, even an 11-5 record doesn't guarantee a spot in the postseason. Though I do think that a 10-6 record(as long as one of those wins are against the Patriots) will win the division for Miami.

Though we need to take this one game at a time. Savor the Panthers win, and next week we have another critical divisional game. NFC wins are nice, but Division wins are HUGE.

If we come up short, worst case, Sparano uses our poor start as motivation to come out of the blocks at full tilt in 2010. But we're still in this, and should embrace the challenge.

Just to be in the race at Thanksgiving is great after an 0-3 start. For years we were always out of the race by now, but we are right in the thick of things. Even Saban's first season when we went 9-7, we were technically out of the race at Thanksgiving as we were 3-7 before ripping off the final 6 games. A win next week at Buffalo, and we have the same record after 11 games as we did last year when we won the division.

That's interesting, and encouraging to a point, but I'd bet a lot of those teams either won crappy divisions or got a wildcard in a weak year for their conference. I doubt either will apply to Miami this year -- the division's possible, but it'll probably require 10-6 with a win over New England (and that might fall short), while the AFC wildcard race has a lot of teams in front of us for now.

I'd say Miami's playoff chances are still "unlikely" but not yet a "longshot." Our schedule isn't easy but neither is it intimidating. We really need another 2-3 weeks before we'll know how things look down the stretch. In the wildcard tiebreaks, the San Diego loss could hurt us, but on the plus side, we'll get a chance to deliver losses to Jacksonville, Houston and Pittsburgh. Our three AFC losses are right in line with the rest of the pack, neither good nor bad.

We've got a shot, but there's going to be very little margin for error the rest of the way.

We do play the Texans, Steelers and Jaguars. The month of December we play all teams in the playoff race.
