I have done this on our boards as well about McKelvin.

It has to do with Ginn IF Ginn could turn out the numbers listed below how would you want him to be used and why do you think your choice is better for the Fins.

1. Focus on Returns (Beats all Hesters Numbers)

2. Fouce on WR (Turns into a solid NO 1, 70+ catches, 1500+ yards, 7-10 TDs)

3. Do both (Puts up AVG Return numbers 20.1 AVG KR, 15.6 AVG PR 4 total TDs) (Number 2 WR Numbers 40-60 Catches, 700-950 yds and 3-6 TDs)

I'd rather have him focus on WR.

He would be more of an asset 50+ plays per game than the 5-10 Kick-off and punt returns he may see.

we can't have this guy get hurt. just WR. if he doesn't turn out to be a #1, let him return some kicks.

Thats another good point, he has a bigger chance of getting hurt on special teams than playing WR.

Injuries can happen anytime, anywhere, however the speed involved in special teams makes it more likely to happen on returns.

I'd like to see him used as both a WR and KR. I don't think his risk of injury increases so much that you take him out of a position he's clearly strong at. BP didn't rebuild the ST unit not to maximize it's potential. Field position is key to success, using your best players to improve the field position is smart football, it's winning football.

yup. if hester goes down, chicago just loses their returner. here, we would be screwed. that is why i think carolina is nuts for letting smith return kicks sometimes.

OK what I think would be best for your team is having him focus on WR.

Reasons why

He was drafted in the top ten to be a NO 1 WR, well should have been for that. Now that being said who do you have that could fill that No 1 Role dont have anyone on the team as of yet. I see a 2.5 with Wilford and a bunch of threes and 4s

So like Dole said he cannot get hurt. So adding him to the return game is to much IMO for a guy that is Supposed to be your WR threat.

Take one of your speedsters lower on the depth chart and put him there. Billingsly maybe or something like that. I can not see a NO 1 WR returning kicks.

I would take the production of option 2 over option 3 anyday.

Definately focus on WR. He got better and better there last season and by taking the pressure of KRs from him, his potential will be utilised to the full.

Don't put the cart before the horse on this one. In 2007 he was a much better return man than WR. He brought three back to the house on returns, two called back on irrelevant penalties, despite Miami's special teams unit having been rather awful all year long (never recovered from the losses of Travis Minor, Sammy Morris and David Bowens). That's as a rookie returner, too.

I'd be the first to be absolutely thrilled if, as a receiver, he started to make a ton of plays and look like an 80 yard and 0.75 TD per game type of guy. And, if he starts looking like that, then ok maybe you start to look at some other options on regular returns so that he doesn't get worn out during the game (I have never, and will never, buy the argument that returning adds significantly to injury risk).

But right now, that's wishful thinking. Right now, he's a pro bowl caliber return man that had basically the same exact rookie year as a WR that Troy Williamson had in 2005. So let's allow his talent to come to us, no need to start fitting him into buckets and hurting your team based on what you want to happen, when you don't know whether or not it will actually happen.

I voted for both, because returning kicks isn't something that requires specialized focus. He can focus on improving as a receiver without hindering his ability to take a punt return to the house.

And no matter what, even if he does become a Pro Bowl WR...you're still going to put him back there on returns at critical moments in the game. It's a scare tactic as much as anything else.

Focus On WR. Kickoff Returns Are Dangerous, However, I Would Like To See Ginn Returning Punts. Much Less Risk, And We Still Get The Special Teams Boost!
