I was watching ESPN and they made these statements:

Troy Smith was 21 for 21 in the redzone in 2006. Eight of those touchdown passes were to 8 different players. Of the 5 interceptions he threw this year, 3 of them were tipped balls. Against Michigan, Troy Smith threw for 316 yds with 4 TDs and 1 int. Brady Quinn threw for 234 yds 3 TDs and 3 ints in their loss. We need a guy who is lights out in the red zone and Troy Smith is certainly that. He is a bit of a contrast to JaMarcus Russell because he has a better short game. They compared him to Drew Brees. I would like to pick Troy Smith at 9th.

at 9? troy smith is not even a firt round pick or QB in the NFL. it is also kind of hard to equate performance from 1 team to another, against PSU smith threw for 100 yards 1 TD and 2 ints quinn had 3 TDs and no ints in 3 quarters.

I like Troy Smith. But I dunno about pick 9.If Russel is their I wouldn't mind taking him.Or trade down and get an extra pick and get Smith would be nice.I think it all depends on what the new head coach wants to do.

who would we rather have Jamarcuss Russel, Troy Smith, or Chris Leak?

Russell will be unavailable at 9th but he has all the physical attributes and looks like a young Culpepper. I think there is a legitimate shot at Smith where we draft and provided he has a good game vs. Florida his stock will soar. I think a good game in the National Championship will secure Smith's spot as the number 2 QB in the draft (should Russell declare). Leak has to split time at Florida as a senior.

Sounds like a reasonable choice to me if Russel or Quinn aren't available...

Russel if we had to choose. But none of the above.

Chris Leak will be a career backup. I just don't see him ever developing into a quality starter. He has never shown the knack for taking over games - AT ALL. He plays within the system, shows little leadership and lacks competitive fire. He has very little mobility and he really lacks composure. He could prove me wrong. But I seriously doubt it.

Troy Smith may eventually be a starter in the NFL. But he it will take him a few years. There are quite a few question marks Smith carries with him. His mechanics are flawed. He completed alot of short passes that were made to look better with YAC by the recievers. I question his medium to long range accuracy.

Russel has the most potential, IMO. He may not be there at 9. Even if he is, I doubt we'd take him. But that will depend on the style of offense our new coach wants to run. Russel will be better suited in an offense that allows him to be creative with his feet. He will not be a pure pocket passer (which I prefer and historically has more success.)

Just my personal opinions.

As i have been syaing i think Russel will be gone after the first pick. Troy Smith will be a late first or early second round pick depending on his individual workout. Must remember Individual workouts are more important to most scouts then what they did in College. As i see it now it goes like this Russel, Quinn, Brohm, Smith. Leak will be a late round pick, and with the right coaching and right system Leak may be a solid NFL QB.

Of his 5 interceptions, 3 were tipped balls. I wonder how many more balls he'll see tipped once he gets in the NFL? DL are much more adept at getting thier hands up and breaking up passing lanes. That's why Smith's lack of height hurts him so much.

I'd rather have Troy Smith. I compare Troy Smith to Tom Brady. I compare Ja Russell to Peyton Manning. Troy Smith can will all the big games. Very intelligent.

If he's there with the 39th pick overall, and we haven't drafted a quarterback with our 9th pick, I will be all over him. I DO NOT want to pass on "Drew Brees", again.

Absolutely no way do we take Smith at 9. I would take Russell or Brohm if they fall (highly unlikely), but I'm not high on Quinn. Would rather take BPA there if those two are gone and try to pick up Smith or Bennan at the second pick. We may get lucky and see one of them at that spot.
