Think about his point, since moss and welker, no SB's and lately not even close..the change in philosophy in NE didn't keep them winners..

And remember when everybody said the dynastic Patriots needed to put some elite weapons around Tom Brady because, um, well … apparently Super Bowl victories in 2001, 2003 and 2004 and two last-second championship-winning drives and a pair of Super Bowl MVP awards weren’t enough?

Are we wanting too much in terms of wanting a great WR? Will it mess up our running game..?

Look at some of the teams that are in the playoffs:
New Orleans - Passing Game Marques Colston
Indianapolis - Passing Game Reggie Wayne or anyone Peyton throws to
Minnesota - Passing Game Percy Harvin
San Diego - Passing Game Vincent Jackson

Let's see how it plays out in the playoffs..is it the running game and the passing complimented or was it the passing that won the sb..let's see..

Other than Az/GB, baltimore beat pats, dallas run over philly, the run was more prominent..Dallas, ES was the man, SF..Rogers, Pitts..the run.. those were the dynastys of their time, and the pats before moss and welker...run pass balance mix..then they went pass happy..no sb wins.. I still think you need good recievers to get there, but..I hear this reporter also..

That Patriots aren't as good as they used to be because their defense is worse. I mean they went 18-1 after getting Moss and Welker. They are not the problem. Imagine how atrocious that team would be without those two.

Yeah, they lost a lot of guys on D in a very short time. Age, injury, etc. They'd be middle of the pack at best without Welker the last two years. Moss I think they might have been able to do without in 2010 if Wes doesn't blow out his knee. Now, they really need him to help open up things for Edelman and the running game.

You have heard the argument from NE followers that Brady depends on Welker and Moss too much, and since Welker's ascendance the offense has devolved.

But whether it be a #1 receiver, tight end, or running back, this offense is in dire need of a player that can make something happen with the ball in their hands. Henne isn't of the Manning or Brees level yet where he can turn the average into extraordinary.

Welker is nothing without Moss.

Just seems silly. Your defense needs to play good. Your offense needs to produce, whether it's through the ground or air, to win the big one.

Their defense sucks now and football critics will try to find anyone to point the finger at when the "high and mighty cheatriots" don't make a run.

As far as the Dolphins go, I think a lot of us on this site want some needed help at WR but don't think we need to go to desperate measures (Buffalo/T.O. - hint...hint...)

Let's hope this team finds some playmakers to help out our running attack this upcoming season. When Ricky and Ronnie are out there the offense can be dangerous...

...our defense on the other hand...

Re-build in NE looming. They are getting old on the offensive side of the ball and the defense has many holes.

Turn out the lights................

For as great as Tom Brady is, people forget how GOOD that defense used to be. That defense was always on attack mode. 2001 they ranked 6th in points allowed, 2003 they ranked 1st and 2004 they ranked 2nd. They got no where near the defense they used to have.

you forgot AZ- Fitzgerald/Breaston/boldin(when Healthy)

For Minnesota it's Sidney Rice. It's funny how underrated this guy is. He's turning into a special player. Drafted in the same year with the Ginn family, he was picked in the 2nd round. On his 3rd season he broke 1300 receiving yards and 8 TD's after only having a little over 500 yards and 8 TD's in his first 2 seasons.

Also look at those teams TEs..
New Orleans - Shockey
Indy - Clark
Minnesota - Shiancoe (11TDs)
San Diego- Gates

My point is, all those teams have GREAT TE's.. With our type of offense i think a TE is better suited than a WR. We 'take what the D gives us rather than attack it' thats the way our offense plays. give us a TE that creates mismatches and can get YAC and we got a potent offense with brown/williams and our set of under rated WRs. Bess Hartline and Cam have all shown promise. We need a legit threat on the inside

Not sure you are looking at the context. In 2007 the Patriots were "19-1" and if it wasn't for Justin Timberlake putting gum on the David Tyree's helmet they would have gone undefeated.

In 2008, Brady was injured and Moss and Welker were good enough to make Cassell look a lot better than he is and the Patriots finished 11-5.

This year Brady is coming off a knee injury, Moss is not as good as he used to be, the defense lost it's leaders, and the Patriots didn't have much of a running game.

I don't think anyone is saying it is WR's "alone" that makes a team great, but it is RARE that a team is great without great WR's. The team better have one hell of a defense like the Ravens.
