In the AFC playoffs, the first, second, and 5 spots are all secure. The Jaguars are five. Right now, New England would be the 4 and they would play Jacksonville at home. However, if they beat us, and Cincy loses to KC, they would be the three seed, and play the 6, which is most likely to be Pittsburgh. So here is my theory, wouldn't the Pats rather play the Jags than the Steelers. The Jags have no playoff experience, and there RB and QB are hampered by injury. So, would it be in the Pats best interest to lose to our Fins? Seriously, would you rather face the Jags or the Steelers?:dolphins:

you never lose on purpose regardless of the circumstance

That's not necessarily true. You never let anyone know that you lost on purpose, but there have been times when people lost and didn't do everything they could that was in the best interests of winning that particular game.

If the Pats really felt that they wanted to face the Jags instead of the Steelers, you could see a couple of players that are fighting injury (Bruschi, Dillon, Brady) play in more limited roles than if they absolutely felt like they needed to win this game.

NFL teams do not lose games purposely for any reason.

That's kind of wishful thinking. NFL teams don't generally set out to lose a game, but they don't necessarily set out doing everything necessary or possible to win the game at hand either. There's allll kinds of things you can do from an injury and depth standpoint that can assure a loss, in the best interests of "the long term interests" of the team.

correct. if players take time off during playing time ppl get injured. It just doesnt happen.

the Jags are not that good, i dont know how they woon so many games, they must have a soft schedule, I bet we would play them close

Some teams may do that, but I seriously doubt a Bill Belichick coached team will approach a game looking ahead at who they might play in the playoffs. He simply doesn't coach that way.

I don't mean throw the game, I just mean sit there starters. Plus, it is just an idea that it may be in the best interest in the Pats playoff chances to lose the game.

I don't believe for a second that Bill Belicheck will try anything less than his hardest to beat us, it really is just an idea.

The Jags had the easiest schedule ever. If they play the Patriots, I gaurentee that they will lose.

Ya the Jags really aren't impressing me at all.

If the Pats finish with the 3rd they could avoid travelling to Indy untill the AFC championship game. There are too many scenarios that could unfold to even suggest any team would lose a game on purpose. Especially New England. They struggled early on and are now starting to play like Super Bowl champs as of late. Why "intentionally" ruin all the momentum they have going on right now?

Just because the game seems like it may be an easier win doesn't make it so, I bet the Fins would much rather have played the Texans a few years ago then most teams, and we all know how that turned out.

or to bring it closer to home, I bet the Fins wanted the Pats in the 1985 - 86 championship game more then they wanted the Raiders, as I believe that the Pats hadn't beat the Fins at the Orange Bowl in more then 20 years, again we all know the outcome of that game also, I could name many more instances that teams played an easier team in the playoffs only to lose. I think in the NFL you can never think of a game as being easier regardless of who it is you are playing.
