I'm gonna put on my tinfoil hat for a second. Does anyone else find the timing of this injury rather strange? Earlier this offseason, Pouncey was demanding a new contract. Now, in the midst of being the only consistent anchor for a revamped O-Line, he suddenly develops a hip injury that requires at least 3 months out. Obviously this will be detrimental in the early season and will show how needed it is. Do you think a new contract was part of the motivation to elect this surgery? Do you think he will sit out longer to further prove his point about his importance to the team to maybe speed up extension talks? I doubt it, but it is interesting to speculate on it. Very strange timing indeed.

He's hurt and looking out for himself now. Nothing wrong with that, anyone is gonna do that and it makes sense. He has to act in his own best interests since he's in a contract year.

Bottom line is that the surgury was absolutely needed. Nobody goes in for surgury to try to get leverage for a contract. It just doesn't wash. Contract years are the time to play great and show how durable and needed you are. I'm just going to pretend that the NFL suspended him for a few games and I do expect him back right after the bye week or even before. The team knew that they might be without him for the start of the season so I'm sure a backup plan is in place plus we still have time to bring in a player who gets cut. Garner did a good job filling in last season. He'll do it again. This is lousy news and starting 5 new guys to begin a season is not a recipe for anything good but we've got to live with it and move past it. I wish Mike a speedy recovery and I'd love to see him back for real in 90 days. No more injuries please!!!

The timing is odd.

The real sad thing is; we won't see Mike go head to head w/ D Easley in wk 1 (another of Gainesville's finest).

Timing is odd honestly the first thing I thought of was the potential suspension from bully gate. We are still waiting to hear about that and to my knowledge has not had the mandated psyche evaluation. Maybe they heard something and he I taking care of a lingering injury, I don't remember reading about him getting hurt in OTA's previously.

The media secretly ambushed him in order to create a story to write about and caused him to injury his hip while valiantly defending himself. He's been trying to inform everyone what happened but the insidious media just wont print the words. Damn you American media, damn you to hell!

Its so obvious, everyone just needs to stop being sheeple.

It reminds me of the Matt Roth situation.

Yea Matt Roth your right, similar timing and smell and Roth got his new team the next year to just like he wanted. Gotta wonder why we have players who would rather play elsewhere after being drafted by us, not exactly a great sign,

Because the Browns were dumb enough to overpay for a reject from the Saban pile?

The timing could have been better. He could have delayed having surgery and tried to tough it out for the first few weeks before giving in to surgery, leaving us to have to find a replacement in season instead of being able to plan accordingly and have a good backup plan in place until he is ready.

Hey you gotta love what free agency brings to the table money, mercenaries and very little loyalty. What a great team sport.
