Resolution approved for international games

"The NFL will stage up to two international regular-season games per season beginning in 2007, further demonstrating the league's commitment to competing in a global sports marketplace and to developing a greater presence beyond the borders of the United States.

NFL club owners approved a resolution at a league meeting in New Orleans today that enables the league office to schedule up to two regular-season games per season outside the United States beginning in 2007 and continuing through at least the 2011 campaign."

It just gets worse and worse as an NFL fan. First they move the start of the season to the week after Labor Day then they schedule night games in Dec and January for cold weather teasm, have night playoff games, move the SB back to Feb, flexible scheudling. It's bad enough we are ripped off by high prices and having to pay full price for Exhibition games and now we will lose a home game overseas? When will they be satisfied w/ the ridiculous amount of money they make? When will they stop screwing loyal fans? I have been to every home game since 1990 and I will be seriously considering ending that soon b/c of the reasons above and b/c they are rumored to move start times back to 2 and 6 for Sunday games. if they do that i'm done.

I like having some preseason games out of the States but having any regular season games played International is a very bad idea.

It's bad for the teams and for the fans of the team that will loose a home game. I'm sure they'll find a way to compensate the owners losing the home game but everyone employed by the stadium will be losing income.

Overall it's just a bad idea but it's all about money to the big boys so they'll end up going with it IMO.

I actually like the 2 and 6 start times.
Not that we'll ever benefit from having a late start time.
We NEVER get a 4PM game here.

I think it stinks, I love 1PM starts b/c I can get home by 5-5:30 and still ahve some of the day left. a 6Pm start would ensure I wouldn't get home until 10-10:30PM. it would suck.

wow that's the first I've heard of it. But it doesn't make sense at all because if the late games start at 6, then when will the Sunday Night game be played? at 10? I doubt they'd start the primetime game while others are still going on.

Just curious nyj...where did you hear that from?

Oh, cry me a river. "It just gets worse for NFL fans". Boohoo. You say you've been to every home game since 1990, and you're complaining because you might get 1 game taken away from you EVERY SIXTEEN YEARS. I've been a die hard Dolphins and Bears fan since I was young, and guess what....I've never been to an NFL game!, because I'm not from the U.S. It would cost me a fortune to watch a game live, and I'd give so much just to do so....I'm going to get there on day but damn, what I'd even give to watch a live pre-season game. Some people don't realize how fortunate they are.

Another thing. You call yourself a loyal fan, and yet say you're done if they move start times back 4 hours. What the hell is this, Disneyland?

This is a weird idea.

There will be 2 games a year and two teams will lose a home game each season. In my opinion that is unfair to those two teams. Having 2 teams a season lose a home game to make it a "nuetral site" game is a bit of a joke.

In my opinion the ONLY way this will work is if every team in a said division (AFC East or whatever) EACH lost a home game in a particular season. The NFL would never do that because the fans in each of those cities would scream from the rooftops about losing a divisional home game.

These will obviously be inter-conference games but what about the travel? These games better be scheduled before bye weeks or else the teams that have to travel to Germany or whatever get royally screwed by this idea.

I'm in Canada and on the face it looks like a great idea. I'll get to see a regular season game in Vancouver within the next five years. I don't care to be honest. I won't go to it. It will be a geographical game (Seahawks, Raiders, Chargers etc.). I can see the Seabags whenever I want (I hasve and their stadium is AWESOME) and missing the 2nd half of the Phins on TV so I can go see Chargers versus Raiders or something does nothing for me.

PFT (and we don't need all the typical "PFT sucks"-type responses ) has their own take on this subject, thought it was interesting:

OVERSEAS GAMES A GOOD THING . . . AS LONG AS THEY'RE NOT OURS
We love the idea of the NFL exporting its regular-season games to other countries.
For purely selfish reasons.
Like the NFL, we realize that the world is a lot bigger than the United States. Like the NFL, we realize that if pro football can catch on in other countries, our cash flow will improve.
Really, there's only so much money than can be squeezed out of the American audience. The best way to expand profits on a long-term basis? Take the product to a bigger store.
The only problem, as we see it? Selling the concept of a lost home game in two cities every year. Apart from the lost ticket revenue and concessions revenue and suite revenue and parking revenue and all of the other revenue that is raked in by the home team that is faced with losing 1/8th of its slate of games, the collateral impact on local hotels, bars, restaurants, and other businesses will be significant. And even though the owners who lose a game will likely be compensated by the league at large, there will be no gratuities given to the folks who rely on that money to pay wages to the local citizens whom they employ.
The NFL, in our view, will likely choose its targets strategically, starting with cities that would be less likely to revolt -- and then working the way up to the Pittsburghs and New Englands and Washingtons and Dallases of the league.
It won't be pretty, even if it's something that will happen once every 16 years for each NFL city. And a good way to help compensate for the loss of one of eight home games could be to give each team a ninth home game by cutting the preseason from four games to two, and expanding the regular season to 18.
Speaking of the preseason, we also are expecting plenty of grousing from fans who are forced to buy tickets to two meaningless games in order to purchase seats for only seven meaningful games.
And as explained in this week's PFT Ten-Pack, we still think that the most fair approach is to require any team that hosts a Super Bowl to give up two home games -- one during the season in which the Super Bowl is played there and one the next season.
Our guess? Plenty of cities would be willing to part with a couple of home games if it meant scoring the biggest game of them all.

it does hurt a team to lose home field advantage for one game. but i think it would be good for the nfl as a whole.

i can see buffalo playing a game in canada, and arizona/texans playing in mexico.

i just dont want to see any team playing in europe or japan.

Amen to that. However, we must come to the realization that the NFL does not give a rat's arse about the fans at the game. TV is where the money is.

What the hell are you saying? That the only NFL fans are those in the U.S. You're saying fans are losing out by U.S. fans not getting to see games and people who love the NFL, yet never get a chance to see live games finally get to watch live games don't count?

Selfishness. Some of you don't realize one bit. :shakeno:

This will help some teams. If Buffalo gets to play in Toronto the fans will be pro Buffalo and it will be like a home game

Where would be the city with the most Dolfans??
